Traded Liam Ryan [Traded with 2027 R3 to St Kilda for 2026 R2 (Stk)]

Is his manager the same as Brad Hill's who also found a bigger money deal at St Kilda?

No idea, but I'm not a huge fan of trying to pinch contracted players by offering more money / years.

It defeats the idea of contracts from a clubs POV.

Ryan is very important for the eagles. Also it's cats F3 I meant to say.
Haha, even worse for me.

I think Liam Ryan is exactly the type of player not important during a rebuild. They should have "Allened" him 2 years ago.

His importance is mainly off field, but considering our lack of half decent smalls there’s a teeny bit of on field too

You guys would know more but he never screamed leader to me. I might be bias due to that AA award interview he had to do though...

In the least controversial and most respectful way possible to anyone of indigenous heritage that reads this, I’ve never really seen or met an indigenous leader that directly translates to what I as a white bloke think of when I imagine a leader, you know? I think it’s just sort of out of my scope of understanding, but he’s very important to our indigenous community and players

I don't think Ryan is important at all. He's a best 22 player but we won one game all season. Him pinch hitting in the midfield for bursts was beneficial but not a long term proposition.

It just comes down to price. If the best we can get is a pick in the 30s or 40s then we're not really helping our chances of winning games in 2026 or improving the list long term.

Hmmm, I mean, Betts and Walters are very clear and obvious leaders to me but Im not going to pretend to know his standing in the indigenous community.

On-field I dont think much will change with or without him next year. Getting some capital for him is a good thing for WC IMO.

Wirrpanda?

Wirrpanda?
I should’ve put in that reply that I’ve only been watching footy for a few years, and while I’ve watched a bit of old stuff I was only born in 04. There’s definitely been characters that fit the archetype, but just not many I’m familiar with

Agree with you on that statement Snuff.

True but getting a F3, is hardly going to be worth any capital of use or value to us.

I don't particularly care one way or another if he stays or goes, however I do expect when a Club comes poaching a contracted, best 22 player, that something a bit better than a pick in the 50-60 range would be on offer.

Respect that a pick in the 50-60 range is all they will want offer and they need to respect that we say thanks but no thanks.

Pick 25 isnt a mid second rounder, thats a late first rounder these days.

Most west coast fans would be fairly content if we got what was actually pick 25-30 in the draft for Ryan - which would be a late first round pick due to academies and f/s
Well you got your pick 25ish mate, but it's not a first rounder. Not sure where it will end up after academies and father sons.

Wasn't expecting the third rounder back!
