I wasn't talking to you. ST claims I just disregard posts and don't answer them. He says its a minority in favour of a stadium. I give evidence, and ask what evidence he has for his claim.

He hasn't replied

Nope, hes been out all last night, and most of today. Good to see you're pushing your invalid points to the forefront still though.

First of all, you made the claim that there was very positive feedback, trying to suggest this has become a major issue. You attempted to provide evidence for this with a very small, and uncontrolled sample. Either you're not very smart, or your taking the piss if you really think a poll where you can vote as many times as possible, which got a response of 2000 people is really a good indication of whats a serious issue.

I suggested only a minority really care, which is simply the opposite of what you were suggesting. You've again failed in your honus of proof, your attempt to provide evidence for this supposedly overwhelming public push fell drastically short. You've asked me to prove the inverse of your statement, and whilst its not my duty to do so, ill say this much... look at any South Australian political poll, and focus on the section which represents the major vote influencing issues... not one poll ive ever seen has had 'New sports stadium' among the major issues. Could it be that this really isnt that big a deal for the majority?

Your kidding right?

There has been an article about a stadium almost EVERYDAY. Even though you discredit the poll it has a 91% support for a stadium. Its a major issue.

If only a minority support a new stadium, why would the opposition come out and say they would pursue a new stadium?

Please no pissy attacks at me. Just answer it.

91% of a very small number of people who could vote more than once (so in all likelyhood probably you 1800 times). Meaningless. Try to provide some credibile evidence. As far as those articles go, most of the ones ive seen have been small private interest groups pushing for a stadium for their advantage...

I havent said only a minority 'support', i said only a minority care. Theres a difference between people casually thinking something might be a nice idea, and actually caring enough to work towards it.

Have you missed the previous explanation for why the opposition would put this out there? They're gauging public opinion, desperately seeking for something that will gain them traction, before they slip into oblivion.

Pathetic

Atleast I never got personal or lied.

Anyway the opposition comes out with a master plan with the centrepeice being a stadium, newspaper articles almost daily, debate, opinion polls and even editorials. The opposition isn't heading to oblivion, they are mapping out a future for this state, obviously something they have been working on for quite some time. If they were trying to gauge public opinion they wouldn't have had a media confrence and a meeting to detail their 'master' plan for Adelaide.

This has become less about the issue and more about discrediting each other.

How many of you have considered a career in politics?

Yeah - this is ridiculous. Southern Takeover - you should be embarrassed with yourself.

There is ONLY opinion at this stage. The only evidence we have is a 2000 person news poll, which hardly tells us anything. But, realistically, if you did a 100,000 person poll and asked them if they wanted a new football stadium in the centre of the city, you'd still get a 90% approval.

The question comes when that 90% is asked whether they'd support a tax or levy to pay for it.

You and Crowmo and KingsCrow grasping for facts to support what are just your points of view is kind of ridiculous. And you dismissing KingsCrow when his point of view is no more crappy than your own is sad. Obviously, MLS is grasping for a point of difference for the Liberal Party here in SA, and they have seized upon the idea of a sporting stadium as something that could gain popular support. We'll see if he's right - but my gut tells me is, just like yours tells you he isn't.

I agree with you that if they asked 100,000 the results would be similar. Thats the way statistics work, the question comes down to how it will be paid for. There is really no question IMO that the people of Adelaide seem to nearly all agree that they believe that a world class stadium in the CBD is the way to go (obviously not taking the cost factor into consideration), the support will dwindle somewhat when it comes to plans of how it will be funded, but on a superficial level it seems that the public is all for it.

I think you can safely say there is a fair bit of public support for a new stadium, everyone I speak to wants it. Not that who I speak to means anything but from a personal view point I am yet to come accross anyone except on here that is happy with AAMI. How the new stadium is built is another matter.

As I mentioned earlier the scary thing out of all of this is The Government and the SANFL don't see the need for it. They haven't even got to a serious stage of thinking about how they could do it.

Correct.
Now if they had asked but to build it, there would have to be another tax levy, would you still be in favour of it? Then what do you think the answer would be?
80% against would be my bet.

I come back to one of my original points, so you think public money should be wasted on a stadium so that sports mad fans can congregate nearly every week, whereas we desperately require new prisons and other non sexy things now.

It's about time people here got their priorities right, instead of thinking of themselves. Get f***n real.

lol, non-sexy. I wonder where you got that phrase from. I don't think Rann or Foley have spoken about this topic without using that phrase.

No I don't, working in the public health system believe me I know where money needs to be spent. However, my point is that it has not even got to that point because all we keep hearing about is how AAMI is a world class stadium. The Government and more so the SANFL don't think we need a new one not because of funding but because we already have one.

While MHS has ulterior motives in doing this, I at least like the fact he is looking into it and it shoudl be put on some kind of long term plan.

You need to have something as well that will increase tourism for SA.

There is always a list of things that needs to be done, that wont ever change, but if the government would do things properly in the first instance instead of being swayed by wowsers with the "OMG we shouldnt be spending that amount of money mentality" we wouldnt be having to spend even more to get things right.

A one way expressway and the money that the government is throwing down at football park for example just 2 things that are just band aid solutions that will end up costing more money in the end rather than just biting the bullet and doing it properly in the first instance.

The o-bahn is another example of poor planning catering for the wowsers that didnt want trams going through the city now we find ourselves with the infrastructure and either no buses or buses being so expensive that it will cost billions to replace the bus fleet.

They seem obsessed with the idea that transport to aami will fix things a lot.. People don't find it an inviting place to go, theres nowhere to go afterwards and its a long journey there.. The world has changed since the sanfl days that footy park served the purpose to

Interstate people dont want to come for many reasons and i remember not wanting to go to waverley for the same reasons.. Its not enjoyable and a hike after the game, usually back to a dead motel, but the telstra dome and the mcg are great and the city is right there..

The atmosphere and attractiveness of a stadium in the city will work wonders.. Just go to a game in melbourne and it hits home what we are really missing out on in so many ways.. The culture of going to the footy is so different and i love it..

Footy parks getting older and not going to last forever as an afl stadium.. One day we will need a new stadium so why pump a heap of cash into footy park is my thinking

I am also of this train of thought. Lets face it....this WC bid is for 2018!!!! The hospital will be built by then and lots of other infrastructure projects will have taken shape. Planning for a new stadium is what is most important here. Footy park is doing fine for the crows and power at the moment. By the time 2015 asian cup and 2018 world cup comes around (lets say we ge it  for arguments sake) Adelaide will be ready and needing of the development

This is why everyone is saying that something must start now before it is too late, we all know it just wont magically get built overnight and that a project of that size is going to require 5-7 years to actually make happen. It will take at least 2 years or more to build it and years of research, planning and organisation before that.

Save the holier than thou crap for someone who really cares Kristoff. Its obvious that you arent some impartial observer, you've already thrown your cards on the table a while ago.

Im not sure why you raised a point re: the larger the sample size, and then discredited it almost instantly, but that was one point i did try to touch upon in my last thread, most people will support it in principle, yet its a different matter as to who actually cares enough to make it a serious issue.

As far as me grasping to support my point of view, ive only expressed my opinion on one point- that i dont believe this is a major issue. Only time will tell, but i somehow doubt it has a major impact on the next election. Apart from that ive tried to avoid throwing my eggs into any one arguement. What ive been asking for, continually, is evidence to support the wild statements which have been thrown out there by those who have taken it upon themselves to push this idea. If you think thats ridiculous, thats on you amigo.

Its an interesting point... people like grand ideas, but dont like paying for them.

Id really like to see an economic impact statement on this... from what ive been ready lately we're being told to freeze government spending almost entirely, im no economist, but something tells me that might be a dangerous environment to undergo a large public spending program.

Ahh yes, I should hire you to express my thoughts. Whenever I try and say something like this it just comes out as a jumble of crap. haha.

But what you said exactly. Plan for a stadium now, so it can be built in the future.

Too true, it's like owning a house and it desperately requires urgent upgrading so that things don't fall apart in a few years time, but the owner goes out and buys a new car because it's a now thing and it looks and makes him feel great.

Then what happens when the vehicle price depreciates, and still owes a more than the vehicle is originally on the loan, but the house still needs more urgent maintenance.

Do you honestly believe a stadium will bring tourists other than sports fans here? I seriously doubt it.
I know the soccer fans are pushing for it, but again until they constantly keep Hindmarsh full and AAMI are constantly full when Port play there isn't any valued reason to suspect anything will change to status quo.

On the world cup, without looking it up, what was the first city where the Socceroos played Japan in 06. I bet that city is not overflowing with tourists because some team from the other side of the world with a rating of between 35 and 45 best team in the world played there.
Melbourne had the G for the Commonwealth Games a couple of years back, but in general tourist terms, I doubt people from the northern hemisphere were booking their trip to Melbourne just because they held a successful Commonwealth Games.
