There is an article on the AFC website regarding the reduced surplus for the AFC this year.
In the article it states that one reason was due to a $600,000 payment to the Northern Grandstand at AAMI.

The AFC still have these debts to cover for AAMI which are going toward a grandstand that will soon be redundant!!

Will the AFC be compensated for this if and when AAMI is no longer used?

the AO thing isn't going to happen, but in theory there are certainly compensation issues at play.

why do you think it won't happen ?

because there is nothing in it for the SANFL to move, its borne of political posturing not sincere intent, and the SACA are already kicking up about what's in it for them.

the middle point is most relevant, ol Mikey Rann gave himself out by giving people only 6 months to agree so when he doesn't have to front "its not his fault". you don't plan your exit strategy so early if you're sincere about getting it done.

And that Mike Rann is probably only running in one more election anyway (before July) which he'll shit in and hence what little is left in it for him disappears.

The other crucial sticking point is the World Cup, should Australia not get the World Cup this all becomes a ginormous waste of money.

don't know about that, Rann is probably looking for his legacy. whether that means he wants to stump up the cash is another matter.

Don't doubt he's legacy shopping, but he hates sport. I dare say he intends the 'Marj' to be his legacy.

Doubt it. Hospitals are terrible monuments for a legacy, because people only experience them at times of great worry and pain, and you can never make people happy. You want sporting or cultural facilities to be your legacy, because of the highs they bring.

Wow, what a downcast view of hospitals, people are born/have their lives saved in them too. Hell, my Great Grandfather named a hospital after himself!:o

I reiterate, Rannbo couldn't give a flying **** about football or cricket, he's more likely to properly rebuild the Supreme Court in the eye of his legacy than a Football stadium!

Every politician, and Rann is a very good politician, views sport as a major part of their populist platform and at every chance will make an appearance at or wear colours of or flag spending money on ... He doesn't need to give a flying ****, he just needs to win elections.

What Rann has successfully done is
1) wait for the libs to declare their hand and then
2) make their vision obsolete.

His opposition is now floundering on this issue.
None of his decisions would have been about his liking/disliking sport but all about setting up a win in the next election.

Undoubtedly, but they're talking about legacy shopping, and Rann is far more likely to want his name and legacy to be remembered when attached to a new Hospital or new Courts, rather than a sporting arena.

he has his legacy, the thing every advisor told him not to do and he did it anyway. The Tram.

In 100 years time those stupid things will still be rattling around, 150 years after we made the right decision to ditch them for buses. That has been his pet from the start.

Yep but he has no chance of creating a legacy from future projects without first winning the election. Sport and hospitals win. Then he can shape his legacy.

While we are so far off topic ... we live near the tram line and, in our experience trams >>>> buses!!!

Not even close

kinda the point. either have trams or don't have trams, one tram to nowhere is rather dopey. Nothing shits me more than walking down for hearings to see a whole bunch of people waiting at beehive corner, to literally go around the corner. By the time they sat their waiting they could have walked to the Uni cafe and be half way though their soy frappaccino. If you are going to have a tram they should have at least linked the CBD to North Adelaide, stopped at the Piccidilly for example.

Should Rann win the next election and actually pull off this Adelaide Oval revamp, he will have a choice of legacies - the new hospital:thumbsu:, the Adelaide Oval, tram lines:thumbsu:, super schools (don't start me on them:thumbsd:), and the pandas.

If he chooses the pandas to be named after himself though, he does pose a risk of people suggesting he sits on his fat a*** doing nothing but feed his face and be expensive. Maybe not such a good idea.

Lexy Downer was the man responsible for Adelaide getting the Pandas, absolutely nothing to do with Mikey. But I'm sure he's glad to take the credit.

So he gets the choice of installing a shitty development over one of the world's premier cricket grounds, leaving the state with a crushing hospital debt, a tram line to rival the souther expressway, a way to destroy the education system and something he didn't do?

I would say standards are dropping, but I supposed relative to the Southern Expressway and National Wine Centre it's actually pretty good:o
