Has this one been done?
They are hard to separate both were controversial, both involved with gambling in cricket, Lillee carried the attack for years as has Warne. Hard to choose but Warne does it for me but only just as Rex Hunt would say there is only a ****teenth in it

warne is not the greatest spin bowler of all time, this honour goes to murali.

he has re invented off spin bowling and introduced wrist spin-off spin, due to his extraordinary double jointed wrist..

murali will become the highest wicket taker in test history and his stats make warne look ordinary by comparison.

as a contribution to the game:

warne marginally because he has affected cricket.

the turnstiles are ticking over, he has people coming to cricket games just to watch him.

he is a people magnet. He may not be as good as the NZ 'gnome' or 'tiger', who can tell? but the fact is people want to see warne, they read the newspapers, they watch the game on TV.

the fifth day of a test match gets 20k to 30k, just to watch warne

Gilchrist has a similar effect on the turnstiles since getting elivated to the test side!

as a bowler lillee had the same effect on the pommes as warne did, they feared him, he had 3 wickets down before sending the first ball!

No Murali is the greatest pitcher of all time. His fastball, curveball and forkball are unrivaled in the modern era. How he hasn't been signed up by the yankees yet has got me stuffed.

You obviously is a Sri Lankan or just know nothing about the game...

Warne himself re-invented and revitalise leg spin bowling, which is 100 times harder an art than off spin would ever be.

Murali's benefiting from his own physical abnormality to "bowl" with a bent arm, he invented a way to show young kids how to chuck, and the kids are doing so.

Stats don't tell the whole story, if Warnie bowls as many overs per match as Murali does, and plays 75% of his matches on turning pitches in Sri Lanka like Murali does, and has no great bowlers like McGrath, Gillespie and Lee to steal wickets from him as Murali doesn't, then Warnie would've had 700 test wickets by now.

If stats shows who's a superior bowler, then Pollock owns Lillee, and we all know that is just false.

At his best, Warnie owns Murali, and that just shows how good that bloke is considering Murali has to chuck to actually get close to Warne...

Wouldnt say that. At his best, chuck or not, Murali is a lethal wicket taking monster. Its always amazed me how a slow bowler can seemingly put so much pressure on a batsmen. We see the bad spinners get belted and look tame, but watching Murali bowl at his best is quite a sight.

Of course, I discount Murali from any bowling comparisons simply because I believe he breaks the rules. But he's still a monster on the pitch.

Okay, I'm just gonna use exactly the same wording from your post, except that I'm gonna replace the word Murali with Warne:

So true.... but Im not trying to diss Warney, just give Murali some credit for what he can actually do (not how he does it)

At their best, they are both exceptional. Except only one of them is playing fair.

jeez get over the murali thing.

on lillee v pillock, lillee bowled to a strong england, an awesome windies, an top flight pakistan, and a competitive NZ, pillock bowls to an Awesome AUs, and er, vaughn of england, lara of the windies and slashin on india, and a whole heap of soft wickets against Zimmers, bangers, windies, pommes etc.

pillock isn't worthy of polishing lillee's boots.

Yes, Murali is devastating at his best, but Warnie is better. Back when he still can spin the ball a mile, he was unplayable when he's "on". Also wins matches for his country when they need him most, which Murali does not do as often (didn't do it in the World Cup like Warnie has).

A few South Africans would tell ya how many times Warnie destroyed their @ss in a matter of half an hour, or Pakistanatis, or Poms, they all witnessed it. Warnie at his best would own anyone, I'm biased, but 20 years from now we might regard him as the greatest bowler the game's ever seen.

:D Thats funny - a couple of posts and you want us the get over the Murali topic, while at the same time you relentlessly spin out your Victorian spiel in every single post on this board!

Fair call... I dont know whether Murali has been as much of a match winner or not - certainly not in the same way and on the same level as Warne.
