It is an issue in the AFL many people think that interchanges should be limited and many believe there should be no limit on the interchanges.

Personally I don't believe that there should be unlimited interchanges to help keep players fresh and a faster match.

I don't want a situation like in the FA premier league where they are limited to 3 substitutes and they only do this if there is an injury or the last 10 minutes of the game and they have like 10 on the bench. Although I understand that in soccer substitutions require a stop in play.

Yes, it needs fixing.

50 Meter Penalty Interchange Infringements are bullshit.

As the league grows to 18 teams and beyond there will be a big dilution of talent so the change has to be made. Its a no brainer.

how is limitating interchanges fair?
it only looks unfair because other teams use it to their advantages, no one said other teams couldn't do the same

Limiting interchanges will put more strain on players increasing the chance of injury, reduce the skill level and quality of football. Do not want.

Did you even read the question?

I basically agree, though there is a theory that it goes the other way. That by keeping interchanges un-capped, the players don't tire enough and so the overall speed remains high and this increases chances of injury.

I don't buy that, fatigue is going to be more of a injury factor than 'speed' (except in terms of collision injury which is the type often cited). Besides, the speediness of the game has been created by the tactical development and the recruitment of certain types of players more than due to interchange.

If they think it will combat flooding and more defensive game styles due to tiring players then go ahead.

I seem to be in the minority about rule changes but if the AFL ends up with 16 St Kilda/Sydney playstyle teams I would be devastated, if the natural evolution of tactics heads towards this and it looks likely then change the rules.

Unless interchanges were limited to a ridiculously low level, I don't think there would be a great drop in skills at all. Dom Cassisi on the afl website the other day said that alot of the skills are getting worse because of the dramtically increasing defensive pressure.

Where's the "stop ****ing around with our game!" option?

+1

It is the screwing around with the rules that has lead to the possition that the game is now. If the AFL stopped trying to speed the game up, then the players would have more time to rest on the ground while the game has a break for a kick in or thow in and they would not need to go off for a rest.
