How much $$$ do you think the Brisbane Lions Football Club put into junior development programs in Queensland??

Very little ... thats your answer!! The Lions would claim that junior development is the AFL's job ... and ALL 16 clubs provide the $$$ that is pumped into grass-roots footy in non-football states.

Get a clue Suzi!

Since when has Victoria been a non-football state?

Perhaps if other clubs who can afford it got off their butts and followed Essendon's lead in having affiliate clubs in Sydney and Brisbane, that would be more of a help to grass roots footy in QLD and NSW than having the Lions having an extra $700000 in their salary cap etc....

So what's your point?

I would just like to be more aware of where the money goes and what all the salary cap is used for. I don't have a problem otherwise.

The Lions and the Swans need more because they are in Rugby League territory. They don't have enough to promote it like what our victorian counterparts do.

Isn't it cheaper to live in brisbane then melbourne?

you either have absolutely no idea about anything regarding this issue, or you are joking.

never has living expenses been an issue regarding salary cap differences for brisbane. The issue is PLAYER RETENTION, and it is quite simple, look at the players that have left lately!!!

would you all prefer it if we went back to the old bears that weren't a threat to anyone so we could have all vic gf's every year so the game could never be truely AUSTRLIAS SPORT, nationwide that is.

i blame this whole issue on our recruiters, had they not recruited such champs as black (second round), leppa, lappin, power, scotts, j. brown ect. this would not be an issue.

What I find interesting is they all of a sudden say "We think the relocation and retention allowance should be available to every club, depending on the percentage they have who are not locally produced”.
So if they believe that to be fair, they believe they have had an advantage with the cap. Btw I believe the above would be fair, they do have issues that other clubs don’t face. Just I believe as they obviously do too, that the advantage is too great atm.

They've been saying that for a long time. People just don't listen.

You are missing the point entirely. We are talking about NOW. Yes the Lions have recruited very well and have deservedly won back-to-back premierships. BUT ... the salary cap was brought in to even up the competition so certain clubs couldn't poach players by offering rediculous amounts of money. Essendon built a great Essendon side in 2000, but are now paying for it 2 years on. Premiership players who have come out of contract want more money (cos they are 'premieship players'), even if their recent form isn't up to scratch (Blumfield, Heffernan, Caracella). Brisbane's $700,000 is for player retention alright ... but not to KEEP players in Brisbane from wanting to go home ... but to keep them when they ask for more money. With an extra 700k, Essendon could have kept Hardwick.

You can't have a level playing field when you have the reining back-to-back premiers having 700k more to spend on players than 14 other clubs.

Victorian, South Australian and Western Australian clubs don't get extra cap relief player retention when they recruit players from interstate. Why should Brisbane?

Yes, this has been the line for a while, and a damn good line too. All salary cap concessions should be available to every club based on a common principle applied across the board, rather than creating single case bogus scenarios.

its pretty obvious, its because of the sheer amount of interstate players that we have, we have lost far plenty of players over the years due to this fact.

at least the percentage idea (allowence based on % of i.s players) is an actual solution.

That's the bottom line. Everything else is posturing.

To use a % figure is a ridiculous suggestion. If this happens, the Lions will recruit less and less Queenslanders, Sydney will recruit less and less NSW kids etc, so they can get more cap money.

If you think they wouldn't do that, that they'd rather give more local kids a chance than have more cap money, you've got rocks in your head.
