Full QAFL fixture here

Hope to see yers there some time. :)

Will be interesting to see if our "reserves" play the Gold Coast VFL side in the pre-season, especially considering the later start the VFL/QAFL has compared to the the AFL.

Wont miss many again next season:thumbsu:

Wil Gold Coast reserves play in the QAFL next year?

VFL next season. Originally were not going to be involved in the QAFL at all, with their reserves from 2011 going to filter through the GC QAFL clubs.

Have heard a few quiet words that they may in fact become an addition to the QAFL in 2011 along with the Sydney Swans. Nothing concrete, and it may not happen, but it would certainly improve the standard of the local league.:thumbsu:

The VFL first round does not start until Sat April 10th
The Lions ressies don’t play their first game in the QAFL until Thurs April 1st.

I wonder what chance of a Gold Coast / Lions Reserves practice match as a curtain raiser before the Brisbane vs Westcoast round one game?

Throw in West Sydney, Too. Will do a huge amount to promote our game. The 'East Coast League' Can't come soon enough, IMO.

Cheers CTD! Yeah I actually was wondering about if they were playing QAFL in 2011. I knew about them playing VFL next year but you have answered my question regardless! :thumbsu:

i have heard that the afl are looking to start up and east coast comp. with a a team from the qafl. the brisbane lions and the gold coast. the swans and the west sydney side. the n.t and some act teams. i think that's what might happen. i cant see the sydney swans playing in our comp

not familiar enough with reserves to know if there's anything news-worthy in here, but for the record...:

23 players aside in 2010 QAFL

All teams in the 2010 QAFL State League will field 23 players.

The Brisbane Lions Reserves shall name a Primary List plus AFL Rookies and International Rookies/Scholarship holders. Their Supplementary Players (formerly known as Top Ups) will be drawn from the Supplementary Lists of the five Brisbane based clubs, plus players from the Sunshine Coast, Bundaberg-Wide Bay, and Darling Downs.

from what i have been told. all clubs will have a suplimentry list this year and it will have 10 players in it. each player can only up to 5 or 6 games. every week your 23rd player has to come from that list

Can't wait. One of my favorite threads, finding our how our future is shaping up. Trust the reporting this year is up to it's usual high standards, coz a lot of us depend on it.

Gotta have some money on a Lions QAFL flag - we got so much class on the list it is a motza.

sorry but i have too say this. keep your money and don't waste it on that bet.

Agreed.

The senior list needs to have the mother of all charmed injury runs for the ressies to crack a flag.

Just doesn't happen anymore.

Yep. And nots forget that even with a full list the youngsters are up against some very seasoned and mature bodied performers who have no qualms about putting a young Lion in their place. The QAFL might not be the VFL but it is still a good standard of footy for a young bloke to learn.

I agree about the Reggies being almost no chance at the flag. Having said that, one of the bright hopes as far as their prospects go is that there is some likelihood that they'll have more hard bodied, experienced players than perhaps is ordinarily the case.

Over the last few years, the side has been made up of inexperienced yet talented youngsters. This year, with the injection of experience and the fact that we blooded a lot of youngsters last year, we could have a reserves side with a lot more size about them. It would not be a shock to see a fair number of players of the ilk of Charman, Stiller, Selwood, Raines, Clarke, Riska, Maguire, Staker, Johnstone running around at various points of the year. Contrast this to the last couple of years when Bushy and Poss really stood out as men amongst boys. If we really have added to our depth in the off-season, then it should benefit the reserves almost as much as the seniors. The quality of fringe senior players would appear to be a lot higher.

But winning the State League is an ancillary goal for us. It really is a means to an end for the club - get games into youngsters, get form into senior players - win/loss is almost a side concern. While I think this is potentially the most competitive reserves side we'll have had for some time, it just seems unlikely that we'll win the flag. I have no doubt though that the side will look like premiership material at some point - we inevitably have patches where the team looks unbeatable.

Speaking of the QAFL. Keep an eye out for Spider Everett and Notting who join Shatts at Labrador this season...
I knew about Spider but hadn't heard about Poss.

Spider and Knobel will form a fair ruck combo!

Was a bit of a tounge in cheek comment. That being said, if the price offered reflects reality I might just fly a tenner for a laugh. As POBT posted it will be easily the most mature ressies side we have fielded.

That being said, we have a very slim chance because of the improved standard of the QAFL this year. It is brilliant the standard - and numbers - of players signing to play up here now. A good reflection of the progress of aussie rules in Queensland.

Practice match schedule... (naturally, all matches subject to cancellation :o)

Saturday March 6 vs Southport @ Coorparoo (4pm)
Friday March 12 vs Morningside @ Coorparoo (6.30pm)
Saturday March 27 vs GOLD COAST FC @ Gabba (3.50pm) :D:thumbsu:

Southport have been fairly lucky this year with their new signings. I think that one of the driving forces is that there are some who think playing here, especially on the GC might give them a chance to be picked up by GC17.

More than the usual amounts of players in their early 20's wanting to give it one last crack.
