Feels about right.

Now, how much of this is ROB’s fault, how much of it is our mids’ fault, and how much of it is our midfield/stoppage coach’s fault?

I honestly think it’s a bit of everything

You can be certain it’s not the ruck coach, I’ve recently been assured that he’s brilliant. Just that we’re the worst in the league at actually rucking, but that’s not anything to do with him.

Tex will be gone next season (i think..), and Cook ain't fulfilling that hole on the scoreboard.

Fritsch’s main attribute is as a lead up player. When he was at his best he was probably Melbourne’s first or second most targeted player. Outside of that, he doesn’t bring a whole lot to a team.

We have Thilthorpe, Fogarty, Rachele and Rankine already, plus Dawson when he rests there, all of whom are better options inside 50. That’s why players like Keays and ANB are really good complements to them, because they work around those guys. They don’t need to be kicked the ball to have an impact.

Players don’t exist in vacuums. It’s not like Tex is gone so we have to find another guy who will kick 35-40 goals. We have to find someone who will fit in to the forward line and complement it well, and I’d argue there are a number of players on our list who would do that better than a player like Fritsch.

2nd paragraph doesnt have anything to do with what I’m saying

Go down play sanfl get confident come back in and play well ? Not the silliest theory for a guy that might have had self doubts at times re his talent and whether he’s good enough

Thus is straight up delusion. It’s ok, contract year performance uplift is pretty normal. Even our players will have it. Our players also take drugs, they’re not all perfect, just like the rest of the comp.

It makes more sense than a guy taken at whatever pick in the rookie draft with little other club interest having the ability to pick and choose when he plays well at AFL level

It also makes more sense than players and coaches voting in him in leadership groups over the years , and not noticing that he picks and chooses depending on his contract

…while a couple of hacks on bigfooty can pick it from afar 🤣

What’s rookie draft got to do with it, numerous elite rucks have come through the rookie draft. ROB was our B&F in 2020. We had 2 Crouches, Sloane and Laird playing full seasons. How many other times has a ruckman won our B&F, once I reckon. It shows you’ve got no argument left when you’re relying on him coming via a rookie draft as being a relevant point in your favour. Just wild swings with tears in your eyes.

‘Leave ROB alone, it’s just a coincidence his beast form comes during contract discussions and after being dropped. He just happens to gain confidence during those times, it’s totally unrelated and just a coincidence.’ Grow up.

ROB gets a lot hitout to advantage but a lot them go the opposition instead, more so than any other Ruck in the comp.

Exactly where did this person source these statistics and their validity? I'd be very interested if there is a site that goes into this much detail if it exists.

So, come with me here guys. It’s 2026. Friday night game, sold out Adelaide Oval. Big game against the Pies. Sam Draper takes a big contested mark 35 metres out from goal directly in front. Walks back off the mark. Faces goal and then pauses…… The crowd waits in anticipation…….. He turns 90 degrees to kick around the corner. The crowd ERUPTS !!!! The whole stadium is roaring !!!!

Don’t you want to be a part of that ?????
Not particularly....No.

Not peak Tex, we need TT and/or Fog to step into those shoes. But replacing current goal and a half per game Tex isn’t as hard. I’m still not convinced 3 key forward types is the best structure. If the 40% of ball that’s directed to Tex was shared between Fog and TT, I think we get that goal and a half and likely more. The 3rd key forward could then add to ground level power and more strength up the ground. We’ve now got Curtin picking up a portion of the vail outs from D50, so the 2 keys can remain attacking a bit more.

I know it’s not happening this year, but it’s something to look forward to in 2026.

I think Tex goes on - had too much impact this year to retire him m
When he does though we will have to bring another forward in. Potentially Cody Curtin this years draft

I don’t think he is at it stands right now. Would need a crisp finish where his opponent isn’t the key springboard of oppo attacking runs out of 50. He still commands the lions share of entries and the return on that investment hasn’t been enough to warrant an extension.

The contract uplift is not unique to ROB.

Grundy for instance was AA in 2018 and 2019, then signed a 7 year contract.

For our 2025 season - the later we can leave re-signing players like Tex (maybe?) and ROB the better.

Yep, it’s bizarre think it doesn’t apply to our players but does for opposition players.

As for ROB motivation has clearly been an issue, sucks, gets dropped, performs for a couple of games, sucks again. Contract year and with legitimate selection pressure, playing his best season since his B&F.

But nah, it’s just a confidence thing, the hilarious part has anyone heard ROB speak, doesn’t seem to be lacking in confidence.

It’s laughable and cringe the lengths some of the sycophants on here go to explain away the bleating obvious.

If Tex does retire next year I think it’s probably Dawson spending more time forward and hopefully Sid Draper getting some proper midfield time to cover that plus the natural progression of players like Soligo, Peatling etc.

it’s just so perfectly normal, I don’t understand why certain types refuse to acknowledge it’s possible with our players. Look at Bicks, just can’t accept it’s possible but in the same sentence says he’s improved due to extra selection pressure from McAndrew. Could definitely be part of it, but seeing as he agrees that ROB hasn’t always put in his hardest, why wouldn’t contract value and length also be a factor? Strange people.

Or Curtin playing a high and hard running centre half forward role. Playing through him to hit up TT and Fog would be a thing of beauty. Plus he’d kick 60 himself.

Oh did we dodge a bullet or what with Grundy. Had we traded for him, no thilthorpe...i like grundy but that cost would have hurt us big time and his form has been up and down ever since

I like Cook but Fritsch has some serious runs on the board, runs I just don't see Cook maaking

Yeah but how does Fritsch, a player who plays his best deep forward and when the ball is kicked to him, and doesn’t really have much else going for him, going to fit in to a forward line that is already stacked?

When Walker retires he fits

See I wonder if Walker even fits in this forward line atm and Fritsch isn’t half the player he is.

They are also not comparable.

One of the advantages of playing Tex is he’s really good up the ground, and can use his kicking on either side to set up plays that 95% of players can’t. Fritsch doesn’t do that at all. He works best when he plays deep forward.

Not true this year, he’s been playing that role

Small sample I know, but off a wing, Cook played well on the weekend, great user of the ball and composed when he had it in hand. I'd persist with him in that role for a few games to se if he can grab the opportunity. So maybe he and Fritch could still be in the same side if that was something the club was considring
