Seven years is a long time out of the finals, overall Reid and Ogilvie did pretty poorly between 2016 and 19 which probably contributed to that dark period

We’re now starting to see the rewards of very good list management/drafting from 2020 onwards

Oh did we dodge a bullet or what with Grundy. Had we traded for him, no thilthorpe...i like grundy but that cost would have hurt us big time and his form has been up and down ever since

Wasn’t he salary dumped for a 2nd and then a 3rd? Why would pick 1 have been involved?

Players don’t exist in a vacuum though. For Fritsch to kick his 40+ we would need to take opportunities away from TT, Fog, Rachele, Rankine and Dawson, because Fritsch is a ball hungry player. They would kick less.

I don’t know why you’re mentioning Burgess. Not once did I suggest him. He is a slow, marking type. I am saying that if we played one of our mobile, skilled, medium sized types, such as Cook, Pedlar or Taylor that they would complement our current forwards so much better. These are players who have all made solid contributions and not gotten in our star forwards way when they have played. Crucially, they would also cost us significantly less than Fritsch.

If Tex goes, that’s about 40% of entries up for grabs.

What would he cost? He's a 5x leading goal kicker at Melbourne and premiership player. You need to offer $$ to get someone to move interstate when there likely will be options to stay in Melbourne.

Not sure I agree with Seed, took longer than it should of and we have to see how the next few years play out.

Not sure, but the speculation was for 2019

Madness. Pies won week 1 of finals from 8th in 2020, so they probably match anyway. Although PSD becomes real with us being bottom, maybe the just have to accept the 12. Reckon he’s been pretty good for Sydney, obviously the forward line thing didn’t work at Demons.

It usually take us 5 years to rebuild a premiership contending list so be thankful it has taken only 8 years given it was our biggest list turnover due to Collective Mind and during the pandemic years and totally stuffing up the 2018 and 2019 drafts. We probably should have played Finals in year 7 but it was a blessing in disguise we finished bottom 4 as it allow us to draft Draper.

Don't bother, trying to explain that Rob is not a great ruckman and has been a burden on most here for years to Bicks, if he can't see it with his own two eyes, collated stats aren't going to change his mind.
Where have I ever said ROB is a GREAT ruckman exactly?
He is the best we've got and perfectly adequate and has been ever since Sauce left, and I've got some news for you he will be until we recruit someone better or perhaps do something novel for the club like draft a young ruck prospect ourselves to develop.

You are obviously just trying to get a rise out of me which you try on quite often so I guess you succeeded this time.

Actually a pretty quick rebuild, I would have thought. Melbourne, St Kilda, Richmond, Carlton, Gold Coast - most full list builds can take a while.

Even Hawthorn pretty much started with it in 2017 - they've played finals twice in nine years, and it's hard to tell at the moment whether their list build is mostly done, or if they need more work to be genuine contenders. I guess the fitness of Will Day impacts that.

Making finals this year is standard for a successful rebuild. Typical is about 5 years to finals.

The clubs you're talking about had failed rebuilds and needed to go around again. So it's not so much we rebuilt quickly, it's just it looks like we don't need to do more than one

Did we? Rebuilds aren't linear, and rarely are they just simple progressive improvement year on year.
But you don't dropped right back to bottom 4 after having rebuilt your list to close to playing Finals. Even Nicks said he overdone the change of game plan at the start of last year that even the players were confused and didn't know how to implement it. Hence, we underperformed last year.
