He wouldn't be the worst option but he has his roots down in Adelaide so I'd wager it'd take a 3 year deal to get him to move and for us not to offer him any contract.
I think we'll offer 1 year as he's substantial depth for a contending team compared to the young guys who don't quite look AFL quality. If needed, we might not love his game style but he'd be totally reliable to do his job.

Darcy Wilson looked an absolute gun for St Kilda last year. Another one of those where if there's even a 1% chance you'd be on the phone today.

Know he's a Victorian but maybe being from up north he'd have less ties to Melbourne? Did he go to school in the country as well?
Wangaratta boy I think.

Surprised how he’s dropped off this year, then again it is St Kilda. Elite runner and by all accounts a consummate professional.

2nd year blues and playing at St Kilda - the disharmony with Ross is the interesting factor here. Apparently he was our guy if the Curtin slide didn't happen, have no doubt we were on the phone to his manager as soon as he was dropped. Speed, endurance and good ball user - can never have enough of those.

Maybe, however I don’t see him as good depth. Not because he isn’t quality, but because of his style of game. He can only play one position, and to be successful in that position he needs to be the guy who gets first hands on the ball more often than not.

A good depth player is someone who can be taken in and out when required, and will get the job done without disrupting other players. If Matt is to play it means significant change to a lot of other player’s position and rotation.

Victorians just can’t fathom that someone would actually like it here.

He’s signed a long term contract, and is playing great footy for a team on the rise. But sure, he’ll be keen to drop all that for a club that’s in shambles because they’re a “big 4” team.
The 1980’s is a long time ago!

Let’s hope we are keeping in contact with D Sharp so we are front of the queue when he decides to return home. Checking the top 25 draftees it’s insane how many academy players there are. Such an even/fair competition.

Ross is no longer the “boss”. He’s been a disaster. The supporters will be after his blood when NWM leaves.

If I were West Coast I'd be making successive bids on all the academy players

Exactly, it isn't that people dislike Matt or don't rate what he can do, the question is, does what he brings fit the team?

Twomey has four ranked in the top 10.

Those should be picks 1-4 then West Coast take 5 and 6
Do GC have 2 of them possibly going inside the top 4? if so, how are they going to have the points to match these bids? WCE could nab one of them. But I expect they will take Sharp with their natural pick and then maybe Cumming with their other - pair up the top SA lads who both look good

I agree that he's limited. But if Berry goes down, it sure is nice to have an experienced and plug and play replacement. Soligo also probably in this conversation.

My original point was that our mindset must change from just developing youth for the future. We've done plenty of that for years now.

But the future has arrived. It's now. We need to win each week and although Matt is no longer our first choice midfield 'bottom of the pack' player, he's still very worthwhile as a replacement when certain injuries come. At least while he can keep his fitness up and at until one of our youngsters passes his worth to the team.

Hypothetically, on preliminary final day we're playing Collingwood at AO. Berry is injured. Who do you play? Jones? Draper? Edwards? Murphy? Given that Rach is a real chance of not returning this year, can we afford to redirect Izak into the middle more?

It's a forced change but a fit Matt Crouch would be better than any alternative we have right now.

Because of all that, I think we will give him a one year contract for next year.

Agree with all this but if he’s getting more than a cheap one-year deal elsewhere we should cut him loose.

If any club with a pick before the Suns don't bid on Dylan Patterson they are being derelict in their duty IMO, he's the X factor game breaker in this draft and no others come close to what he could be if all goes well with his development.

They liken him to NWM i saw in the draft write up

Also would love another option, NWM would be elite playing some midfield minutes
No body knows what NWM is going to do but this is starting to look more like Adelaide every minute it goes on. No information nothing, it wouldn’t surprise me one bit that Adelaide will get his signature.

Quicker and more agile and possibly an even more penetrating kick...of course he now has to prove it at the top level.

Possibly?
The Draper development and planning probably drops him further down the ladder but Sid is not a like for like.

Depth is critical for successful teams. Especially experienced depth. The Rach injury has exposed this as we've tried Murphy and Pedlar so far and they've fallen well short of covering what Rach brings each week.

I think that in his role, Crouch will bring performance that will be okay. Any cost of having him available when needed will be just another cost of doing business. Like insurance, you get the reassurance you pay for.

See, the issue we have is that if we DON'T happen to jag NWM, we are falling behind as GC get Patterson and the other top rated academy kid they have to add to their previous seasons hauls of top end academy kids. If we don't happen to be successful in turning NWM's head our way, what do we do to improve our list again? our drat pick will be a back end of 1st this year in a weak draft???

Given list management's record over recent times I'd think they'll have more than one iron in the fire that they're working on and you can bet Hamish and his crew will have eyes on a couple in this draft they rate highly that they think can be had with our later picks if we take them to the draft.

no doubt, but we are trying to fight with one hand tied behind our backs in relation to GC and the list builds

All the more important to try and bank a flag or 2 now while they are not quite set
I look at it the other way, they are headed for a salary cap squeeze big time in coming years and being mostly home grown talent we have the opportunity to raid them like all AFL clubs because unlike previous times these players have no Victorian go home factor making Adelaide a viable option. A fit Charlie Ballard anyone?
