It really shouldn't come into it what the players draft pick was, it should come down to whether they're ready for sustained AFL game time or not.

What is the reasoning to suggest that Edwards and Draper are not ready?

Nothing worse IMO than having draftees yo-yoing in and out of the AFL team.

I would agree, but the solution is not to never pick them. It is to back them in even when they have the odd quiet game or two.

Yes, but we also need to be aware of our impending salary-cap tightness in coming years. We have several young players entering star status that will be pursued by other clubs. Every little difference counts - we need to distinguish required depth from luxury depth and Crouch on a multi-year deal is a great example of this. Is the difference between Draper’s next two years and Crouch’s enough to justify Crouch’s salary?

Do we though?

Michalanney and Hinge come out of contract next year, both who I think would be likely to re-sign for less than what they could get elsewhere, then Rankine, Worrell and Draper the following year. I’d say Rankine and Draper we should be fine with, only Worrell who I reckon we might need to pay big $$$ for.

I’m not an advocate for re-signing Crouch, but I don’t think he’d be too much of a burden on the salary cap.

You never know which players certain clubs will go hard for. We’d also still want to be attracting one or two high profile stars in the coming trade periods to really complete the squad. So yes, I think being careful with our salary where we can is wise.

Victorians just can’t fathom that someone would actually like it here.

He’s signed a long term contract, and is playing great footy for a team on the rise. But sure, he’ll be keen to drop all that for a club that’s in shambles because they’re a “big 4” team.
What? Have they been to Melbourne?

Shame we're likely not in the running for NWM, some of that inside clearance work was far better than I expected, absolute class.
I still think we are up to our eyeballs in NWM cant see anyway port get him unless they trade butters

GC might not quite be there this year but they really look set for a dynasty at some stage. So much high end talent already on their list with more to come.
And we'll knock them off every year late in September for a decade. 💪

2 games with an inferior percentage and we’d be a chance of missing the finals. You’d be happy with that?
If Rahilly didn’t leave we probably make finals last year and this year!

It’s all conjecture George - to make you feel a bit a better.

Assuming we don’t have a disaster in the next 5 weeks (remembering Carlton of 23 and Freo of 24) - you can pretty well lock in Nicks for the next 4 years. Gets top 4, maybe equals or betters our best ever minor round - he will be the one calling the shots as he will be in heavy demand.

I suggest lock in those counselling sessions

If he wins us a flag this year, I will completely change my mind on him and he will be my favorite coach since Blight

NWM is a pipe dream for us unfortunately, I believe he'll sign a two year deal with Saints and it'll be a audition for Saints/Port after 2 years who's has the better looking list

Why don’t we offer NWM a 2 year contact for $1.5 M a year with a written guarantee that we will trade him to the club of his choice at the end of the 2 years for a second round draft pick.

We get 2 years to win a flag, possibly longer if Poort Pear go into receivership.

What could possible go wrong?

Why do we have salary cap tightness?

Rachele, Soligo, Thillthorpe, Rankine and Dawson have all been recently signed longterm.
