List management involves the strategy and execution of:
drafting
recruiting
player development
salary management
...

who has been in-charge of List Management over the last decade? and who actually makes the decisions? does the coach interfere and say "hey i want a guy called Daisy" Does the board interfere? where does the buck stop and do we really have a strategy.

North have the ability to identify and develop talls. They bring them in, pump them up and when they realise the new model is better than the old model they trade them out for value. North have ended up with the best and youngest of their ruck stocks in Goldstein. and they unloaded ageing surplus (hale and Macintosh for a 1st and 2nd draft pick... nice work

The blues on the other hand have pumped a load of draft resources into the ruck division, failed to identify the best and lost him (Jacobs still while young) and only getting a 2nd rounder because he wanted out.

was there a strategy to manage the ruck list?

I am an advocate of having a balance of players of different positions on your list at any time. that way you can develop them in their positions (either in the 1's or 2's) and there is not a log jam which denies them a run (and then they want out) and it doesn't help if the 2's are short in any area either...

Waite is nearly gone, casbolt is no sure thing, Hendo is no sure thing to play forward. Rowe is looking like a fail.

considering they take longer to develop, there are clearly not enough Key forwards on the list!

Carlton strategy: get Boyd

Frawley gives us a KPD AND a KPF in Henderson.

We'll draft another KPF and head to the next 3 years.

All fair points, but I would ask…why start a new thread when there are 4 or 5 options on the first page alone?

because i wanted to get some thoughts on The List strategy as opposed to "developing players" or "what is player development", "or our mids."

Its the umbrella strategy, i'm interested to know how this is run in the club and by whom. We can bag wayne hughes all day, or defend him by claiming that the club can't develop talent. Until you know the clubs strategy its hard to judge segments.

i'm completely unclear as to what the clubs list management is.

And yet your OP began with this…

List management involves the strategy and execution of:
drafting
recruiting
player development
salary management

Just don't think we need another place to talk in circles.

yes I have attempted to set a scene for the thread before asking this:

who has been in-charge of List Management over the last decade? and who actually makes the decisions? does the coach interfere and say "hey i want a guy called Daisy" Does the board interfere? where does the buck stop and do we really have a strategy?

we don't have to talk in circles, if you had any insight i would have loved to hear it.
This thread was not intended to comment on carlton's poor round 1 performance or blame a lack of playing personnel.

if you don't understand what strategy is, i am happy to explain.
