There seems to be a fair chunk of tigers supporters who believe that the coach is entirely to blame for the mess we are in. I have to agree. You can't bone a coach as there is more to a successful team than the man in the box, and obviously the cattle on the park are the ones who determine our win-loss ratios.
OK so in terms of ages there are serious concerns. A former North recruiter said last week in the paper that we had made out to seem we had a young list when we did not.
I understand it's 4 rounds in, but if Wallace is receiving scrutiny than there is no reasons the heat shouldn't be turned up on the players:
Under 23
Age Unbalanced with Talent
Firstly AGE is important...however age is useless without talent...it's a mix of the two. Here's my theory...our OVER 27ers are on the list for the pure fact we have drafted poorly. They are/were keeping the side a float as Terry and co knew that our under 23ers arn't capable of playing at the level - or are late matures. If we look at Carlton, there are no over 30 year olds only one or two over 27. They have drafted much better than we have - with thanks to high draft picks. Unfortunately our draft choices have hurt us so much so that it has snowballed. Now 28 and plusers are not the type of players who can carry a side. That's what they have been doing. They're running out of legs, and the weight is falling on our younger players, who can't cope and aren't good enough (yet) and we're being exposed. It strange but our list is equivalent with a premiership winning side. However look at our players between 23-27, there are no consistant perfformers who you would put your life on to win you games of footy. This is what the Lions of 2001 to 04 and Geelong now have. Look at the names. Bar Foley and Tuck, we have King, Schulz, Thursfield, Polak, Coughlan, Pettifer, McMahon. They are either at bugers, injured or you would delist at earliest conveinance. Thusrfield is the only of those you might consider keeping.
Veteran Problem
We heard Caro say it on FC but we are ageing at the wrong time ahead of the GC and West Syd draft concessions.A new coach is likely to swing the axe on a couple of these guys, while the others might retire.
Of them Johnson, Bowden and Simmonds are players who are tried and proven failures in winning us games of footy (as opposed to picking up uncontested possesion) - they are likely to reire or be delisted at the end of the year. Brown's form suggest he is on the downward sprial and may never recover from his leg injury, but would prove attractive to GC hungry for senior players and a 'star' to be the face of the club.
Richo will purely stay on for as long as he likes as he is the only one who tries and is in the best form - not to mention is epitomises whaty this club is about. Cousins will stay on as the club made a commitment to give him a chance, and I couldn't see him leaving the club anytime soon, barring massive injury problems.
That leaves another hole. While we can do with out 28 plusers, we don;t have any sort of talent bar two or three players i our prime 23-27 age group. Meaning we'll have to rely on our kids 23 and under to carry the load. At the moment though they aren't coping well, and its hard to guage their potential given the string of games we won at the end of last year had our vetrean playing in the side and in better form than they are now.
Futures
Time to be Given: It's confirmed that these players will be given at least 2-3 more seasons until we can make a proper judgment on their suitability at the club

, having no good picks, and remaining medicore for the next 5 years. The next two drafts are crucial. If we play our cards right we are in a good position, if we fail we are in deep shit.
