This is the place to discuss gigs you've got coming up, gigs you've seen recently, fav gigs of all time, fav venues etc

for me personally 2009 has been a throwback to the 90s, having seen the Pixies, Janes Addiction, Faith No More, Pavement and Dinosaur Jr. Then am seeing Mudhoney, Sonic Youth, Breeders and Sebadoh in NY at ATP festival in a few weeks. Should be awesome

Good thread.

Mudhoney at the Central Club back in the late 80s. Freakin' loud, cans of Emu Export and those songs.

Jeff Buckley waltzing up to the stage and singing unannounced at the Lounge at like 3am one night was amazing. Just stopped the freakin' room.

Saw Nirvana burn it up. Talking Heads were great too.

Best gig ever:

Moonspell & Katatonia - Troy New York.

2nd Fav - W.A.S.P : Crimson Idol Tour

Irving Plaza New York

Upcoming gig:

Soundwave / Mayhem

Best gig i have ever been to was Jasmine Rae @ rooty hill RSL mid last yr. Was lucky enough to meet her prior to the show, and she invited me to sit in on sound check, and was the start of a fairly solid friendship between us

I don't even know where to start... I reckon the best live gig I've ever seen was At the Drive-in, mainly because the crowd was on a knife edge for the entire show, and the stage show was just so energetic.
Everyone knew that the band had walked off stage at the Sydney show and refused to play because the crowd was being a little over-excited. Strangely enough for a group to go so absolutely ballistic on stage they required the crowd to only partake in slightly upbeat jigging, and during the set they taunted the crowd and told them they were 'all sheep'.
Anyway, they played out the set, and it was brilliant, but it was tense.

Other live shows I've been to that are highlights, not always because I think the band was brilliant, but more for the atsmosphere and the chance to see them live would be...
Ozzy
Opeth
Metallica
Faith No More
Soundgarden 97 BDO
Strapping Young Lad
Melvins performing the Houdini album in it's entirety.
Audioslave...seriously only went because it was Chris Conell and RATM members.
RATM at the BDO. 40,000+ people yelling '**** you, I won't do what ya tell me'.

Nothing beats an open air festival with a huge band that everyone wants to see. Faith No More, Metallica, Soundgarden, RATM...all had that vibe of awesomeness.

Soundwave in 2011 should be the same if Iron Maiden are indeed playing.

I've seen some brilliant Finn Brothers / Crowded House gigs and ofcourse the Oils really got the pubs rocking. Also was a big fan of The Living End live, some 28 days and Jack Johnson and Michael Franti. Peter Garrett though live before politics was a real rocking event. Would love to see U2 live.

Here's a funny one - well, it was memorable. Many years ago, I met KD Lang for work. I actually ended up having lunch with her and her guitar player. So she offers me tickets to her concer t- which I think was at the Palace - I accepted and duly headed off to the next night.

The ex and I rocked up and found we'd been given tickets smack-bang in the centre of the front row - the best seats. Then KD comes out and sings the whole concert directed to my ex, including coming off stage and singing right to her! She had obviously taken quite a shine to her. It was an interesting night.

is your ex's name Jeri Heiden?

Anyone seen Little Red play?
yep i saw them play at the Corner a few years ago. a pretty good show, and have got a great 50s rock 'n' roll/doo wop sound going. was packed full of 18 year old girls, which was a surprise - and made me feel old for the first time.

am pretty sure Little Red are supporting Blondie and Pretenders at the Day in the Green on Dec 4th, which will be a great day. Saw Leonard Cohen do one of these shows a few years back.

Yeah I've never actually seen them. A very good friend of mine is in the band and is still pinching himself at how well things are going. For the style of music it is I'm surprised as well but really happy for the guys.

I saw Nick Cave at the old Seaview Ballroom back in the 80s. That was good. Sort of summed up the true St Kilda before it gradually slid into the blandness of today.

nice one Grizz. was that with the Birthday Party or the Bad Seeds? That place was before my time, but def sounded like a institution for Melbourne's underground scene. The doco We're Living on Dogfood is worth a watch.

I've seen Nick play with both bands. I actually went to art school with one of his girlfriends. One of the lecturers was good mates with Nick, even saw some of Ghosts of the Civil Dead being filmed.

Funniest gig I ever saw was at the old Prince. Freddy Negro was playing, it was a hot night and they ran out of beer. Anyway, a dude shows up with a trolley loaded with cans, Fred spots him from the stage, strips off completely, jumps off stage, makes his way through the crowd to the beer guy and proceeds to dry hump the trolley of beer. Very, very funny.

I walked out after 4 songs of his most recent tour. Band was great, but he was just awful. Apparently very hit & miss (mostly miss these days)

Another shocker was Barry White a few years back. Stayed to the end for that one because the band was just awesome and they were allowed to run away with things a bit. Seriously thought he was going to expire on stage in front of us.

Didn't we see Pink Floyd together? That was the night when the flying pig got stuck half-way across the Tennis Centre. Stuff just seemed to go wrong all night. The worst concert I ever saw was Neil and the Young Ones at the Princess Theatre - had comps but was so incensed by the crapness, I thought seriously about asking to be compensated for wasting hours of life on the damn thing.
