Hawthorn have a fantastic setup in regards to blocking for Franklin if you watch closely. Watch the Hawthorn game v us a few weeks ago and you'll see Ryder at times 10m away from Franklin - At first I thought Ryder was being lazy but after watching the replay it showed he was blocked on numerous occasions.

I think this needs to be adopted at Essendon with Lloyd. He's a great mark on the lead all he needs is just 1-2 metres of space to do his damage.

Thoughts?

Our forward setup is shocking... Lloyd 1 out is never going to work... Even with blocking because you have to have 3 players blocking the 3 players that he always has on him... We need to play both Scotty and Lloydy in the goal square so we have more then one option because when Lloyd is double teamed it is nearly impossible for him...

When we're playing well, we hit up the options across half forward.

The great thing about Lloyd is that providing you give him every chance (IE don't kick over his head), then the ball at least comes to ground.

It's okay to have Lloyd playing against three, because he'll take two contested marks a game. But we don't have enough blokes getting front and square.

It's something McVeigh and Mark Johnson do extremely well but aren't often in a position to do.

Davey would also be handy.

yeah when we are on our game we have plenty of options... When we are losing though we often have no structure in our forward line...The McVeigh's arent there, they have pushed back...

I actually reckon Lloyd and McPhee should play from the goal square.
McPhee can take a great grab, but lacks confidence to play down back, is unaccountable and at times puts team mates and himself under unessessary pressure.
Maybe a season in the goal square with Lloydy might give us a bit more firepower. At least he wont have to watch his man as tightly as down back and if he takes a mark, he can go back, settle and have a shot rather than try and spot up a man.

Lloyd and Bradley/Neagle/Johns out of the square with Davey crumbing. Luas and Gumby across HF with Jetta. Tall i know but if McPhee, Mcveigh and Welsh out of the centre then we should be a chance.

but our kicking to him is shocking so we'd probly stuff it up anyway.
last nite lovett n mcveigh were the only ones who could hit a target on the chest

And Dempsy lol. What's the point Lloyd should have won us that game on sunday if he kicked striaght it we would have gone a lot closser to winning a game we didn't deserve. 3 shots 45-50 out straight in front something he would never miss a few years ago now well we might as well have courntey johns taking his shots.

When we are playing well it's becuase our midfield are breaking even I don't think our forward line is working badly it just either doesn't come in fast enough or we kick it straight to sides loose men.
