Aston Villa,
will the appointment of captaincy lift lloydy to new heights this year? has had an indifferent couple of seasons, probly relinquishing his throne of best forward in the comp to the likes of tredrea, hall etc...i know the games evolving nature has made the full forward poisition a hard to play but his form looks red hot and its probly the best leadup to a season hes had for quite a while.....i believe 70+ goals wuld be a good return.....(and plenty of hangers)

im an optimist hence hes got a spot in my supercoach forward line...bargain at $505,000 my gut tells me....

Always hard not to have a psuedo essendon team in these things!

Without wanting to be accused of trolling I was at the game on Saturday night and I was very disappointed with Matthew Lloyd's diving and playing for free kicks in the first quarter. He is too good of a player to need to stoop to those levels and he should eradicate it from his game. Apart from the diving I did witness a very good game from the new skipper and well done to him, but he needs to work on that aspect of his game otherwise football may end up turing into soccer with acting for free kicks which is not good for the game....

Only one of the three was for in the back.
How was he diving or playing for a free kick when one was for too high and one was for holding the man?

You can't play for that.

From my recollection I think two were for in the back, but I may be wrong. It is very frustrating to see players diving or playing for free kicks (this also covers actions beyond diving), we have one at my club by the name of Yze and it is pushing football down a path that may have an adverse impact on the game. They were just my impressions from being a neutral observer of the game and it would be interesting to see if Barry Hall was paid free kicks if he went down as easily.....

One was for holding, Lloyd would have marked the ball had he not been held. Definate free kick. No dive from Lloyd.

One was for over the shoulder/chopping of the arms, Lloyd would have marked the ball had that not happened. Very, very soft, but under the new rules it was there. No dive from Lloyd.

The other was for in the back, shouldn't have been paid. Lloyd went to ground when contact was made. Very minimal contact at that. Can understand why people don't like, not even sure I like it, but the outrage from a lot of people is certainly uncalled for.

i can understand some anger over so called 'diving' to some degree, last year lloydy did stoop at times but on saturday i thought his attack on the ball was very pleasing and his intentions were quite clearly directed at the sherrin! the free kicks were there to some extent ...altho touchy at times....but i think the delivery early in the match made it hard for the defenders to stop the mark hence there was plenty of reaching over the shoulder etc....u cant complain at all when u see a tug in the jumper...black n white stuff.....

I think you could make a case for the last two kicks being there under the laws. The second one was soft but was there although a bit more consistancy from the umps with those type of free's would be good.

With the thrid free you could argue that it was a free against Barry for a shepherd . Yes Lloyd did dive when he felt the contact but the only thing Barry was content on doing was keeping Lloyd away from the contest so his team mate could mark it.

I do laugh at all of the people calling him a dirty cheat and a disgrace. I am sure they have never done anything dodgy or underhand in their lifetime lol
