I totally agree, it has now become embarassing!

he actually cost us the game tonight. He gave away a crucial 50 metre penalty late in the 3rd quarter, crows get the goal and the lead which we never got back!

BS. There where several things that could have cost us the game last night. You can't just single out that one incident.

i would actually say lloyd is looking better and better each game. Its clear he has bulked down a bit, which was the main problem for him making him less agile. I think he is starting to look more agile and can get higher lift off the ground.

If the delivery was of the quality it was 5-7 years ago people wouldnt mention a thing, because he would be kicking bags every week

Yeah lloyds shit. He dropped every mark and went to ground all the time. Every pass was lace out to him and still dropped everything. I cant believe some people. Do u guys actually watch some of the kicking to lloyd??? 90% of the time the ball either drops short or is hanging in the air 2 bloody long which give another defender to be the 3rd man up and spoil. If he had someone decent delivery to him he'd have 40 goals by now

Honestly guys...

Was the game suited for big forwards tonight? No.
Did Lloyd and Lucas at the minimum take Adelaide's two best defenders? Yes.
Did Rutten and Bock have an impact on the game? Minimal.

Stop sprouting this "goes to ground too easy" crud...EVERYONE was going to ground too easy tonight...it was SLIPPERY.

What about last week? Held his feet in every contest, kicked 4 goals - do we have such short memories?

Bock had a great game! :thumbsu:

Burton took 9 marks, had 21 possessions and kicked 2 goals 3 behinds. Lloyd took 2 marks and had 8 possessions, kicking 1 goal. A fair chunk of Lloyd's possessions were at the opposite end of the ground. Lucas' first game back so can't expect too much, took 5 marks and had 8 possessions.... Lucas did more than Lloyd after nearly 3 months away from footy. For a team that generally relies so heavily on 1 or 2 players kicking goals it's not a great return from Lloyd. As it stands, it's his lowest goal-kicking average since 1996, his second season!

As some of you're aware I don't think stats are the be-all or end-all however it does tend to show a forwards output (apart from Al Davey whose pressure is worth plenty more touches/goals than he gets! :thumbsu:)

P.S. Lloyd goes to ground at nearly every contest every week and has been doing this for 5 years! I never wanted to admit it... but Lloyd dives!

its sad to say, but lloydy was a liability last night. and he is our captain its not good enough. seriously drop him into the ressies to get some form back. as sad as that is!

guys i love matty, those old Lloydy chants we used to get going when he was on fire was the best

ah the memories Lllllllloydy Lllllloydy Lllloydy it was the best

It's quite simple for Lloyd keep your feet and you remain competitive, too often he goes to ground after a contest and i am not just referring to tonight. As soon as you loose your feet your team is down a player, you are still in the play when you keep your feet whether it be a block for another team mate, defensive zoning or possibly ending up with the footy.

On a side note plenty of positives to draw from tonight. Great to have something to cheer.

Top post! :thumbsu: Including the positives too!! :thumbsu:

He needs to bloody well keep his feet. Its as if he thinks going to ground in any contest will win him the ball. Bloody keep your feet Lloyd!

Yep. Very frustrating. He's better than that! :(

How far back does your memory go? I went to the Carlton game and sat there with my family both Carlton and Essendon and we all made the observation he goes to ground far too easily, not just tonight. We are not talking about players slipping over we are talking about a player that for whatever reason decides at the critical moment to go to ground. Like i said in an earlier post once you go to ground you are effectively out of the contest. If you keep your feet you can achieve the 1%ers that do the team things. It's a simple thing and if he does it less in the future i will certainly get off his back but it hasn't changed all year. Those massive tree trunks need to grow some roots.

And again, top post! :thumbsu:

I've got to agree. I stopped defending LLoyd years ago (when he's accused of diving). He's not exactly staging for free kicks like he used to (and he did!), but he loses his feet more than any other player I can think of... Just falls out of the contest, and we're one man down. I appreciate it was slippery last night, but that's not what I (and everyone else) is talking about. If you can't acknowledge that flaw in Lloyd's game, you've got blinkers on.

I certainly have no desire to stick the boots into him. He's been a great footballer and club-man and has surely got a couple more years of productive football in him, but his on-field leadership is severely lacking. I don't see him exhibiting the traits I want this new generation of Essendon players to have.

I really don't think his off-field leadership has been too flash either, but he was probably required as a constant for at least this season, after such upheaval at the end of last year.

As someone else said, it would display great maturity and selflessness if he could make the decision to relinquish the captaincy himself. The days of FF or FB captains are well and truly over. McVeigh Skipper in '09, for mine.

Before the ANZAC day game started I asked my father, "Would you trade Lloyd at the end of this year?"

He replied that he had never given it any thought. By the end of the game he observed that other teams might not actually want him given the current state of the game and the way it is played.

I can't see any of the established sides wanting him - but maybe one of the expansion clubs may want an established forward. He would bring experience and could help teach the young players.

Lloyd has been a champion player, and one of the greatest in Essendon's history, so I would think it's extremely unlikely the club would trade him. His confidence is down, and he may not be 100% fit. But just go back to Round 1 and he destroyed my team. He'll turn it around, but does he have to desire to keep playing on when there really isn't any prospect of playing finals soon? Four years in a row without finals, plus injuries for a 30+ yo champion - is there anything left for him to play for apart from milestones?

After he had hamstring injury in round 3, 2006 he hasn't returned back to his normal self. Has been out of sourts for two seasons now, and is rapidly on the decline. He only has a year to go, will retire end of next year for sure. Can't have him in the team if he doesn't kick over 4 goals a game, he is a FF and needs to perform. Lloyd is under the pump.
