Anyone else other than myself and that Yeronga scumbag :D involved in local footy around here? QLDers, Victorians..... crow eaters.... :thumbsu:

After Christmas going to be spending less time on the computer and more time getting ready to try play more games this year. Played 2 for UQ 4ths while having a few problems with my knee. Wasn't all bad, kicked my first league goal :D Nice little soccer toe poke :thumbsu:

What teams does everyone follow locally?

Scumbag hey?

As alluded to I play, and am involved with, the Yeronga Football Club here in Brisbane.

Normally play 3rds (State Association Div 3) but have played a number of Reserves games (State Association Div 1 Reserves) for the Devils.

Good idea to find out who is out and about playing footy at grass roots level (or otherwise) Chez.

Best of luck with the StingRays Alex :thumbsu:

:D

We call you scum, you guys make fun of us because we're apparantly all upper class gonna be lawyers :P

How many of the people who play for the Red Lions actually study at UQ?

It's probably better that you think THAT is why we make fun of you :p

I cant imagine a Student Union run by the Fresh ticket is going to throw you guys much money unfortunately. They're Young Libs to the core... very much the Rugby Union set.

And I think society would be better if members of your football club would stop breeding :D

I don't think we get any money from the Union sadly. I think we pay them for the ground, while at the same time we're at the mercy of UQ Sport as far as conditions on the ground.

And of course UQ is always going to all about Rugby. Their team is in QLD Premier Rugby, which does get TV time while we play in State Associations Div 1 and 2. You'd be lucky to get a game of State League on television at all

And I'm going to back down on my Anti-Yeronga stance. The true filth are Jimboomba Redbacks :)

Good luck Alex, speaking from experience it is an intensly tough league but you get a great sense of achievement from playing in it. Just don't let it get to your head, for so many reasons. Good luck! :thumbsu:

Good to see a Local footy thread, unfortunately due to family and injury I no longer play, although hhhhhhhI am eyeing off the over 35 league when my son starts playing footy, surely his mum can't resist. I have become involved in school footy especially girls footy. Never thought i would enjoy it but it is a fantastic spectacle and a great experience.

Haha, bloody hell I remember their full back. Looked like your classic redneck inbred!

But he was 6 ft 6 so he always beat me to the ball :o

Still running around in the magoos at Caboolture, we play at a Div 3 standard, hence we get belted weekly, but the comradarie is great, and the footy trips are always epic! :)

Involved at Doncaster FC in the EFL, widely regarded as the strongest suburban comp in Melbourne.
Throughout our history we have been a perennial 2nd division club. Had a shocking year 2009 & as such have been relegated to 3rd division for only the 2nd time in the clubs long history. The only other time we ventured down to this level it was for a season, so hoping for a similar result. Strong off-field work, a good coaching appointment, coupled with an aggressive recruiting campaign should see us as a threat for the 2010 year. That said it just gets more & more difficult each year.

Great idea having a local comp thread.
Should be lots of Fitzroy FC reports, given their swell of membership in 2010.

Alex who is your junior club?

Not wanting to use this as ‘another jumper thread’ but it was interesting to read that the members had voted to change the jumper back to the original East Doncaster Geelong hoops. We [Beverley Hills] used to play finals at Schramms… several generations ago.

Bobby, noting the ‘original jumper’ I assume this is the same club that once upon a time played their home games at the Leeds St Oval?
