There has been much said and written and recently much huff and puff about supposed clashes of colours. It appears to me that no one is thinking outside the square. My understanding is that the AFL claims that the backs of the jumpers confuse players, officials and spectators alike.....Well brainiacs, the solution is pretty simple in my view. ;)

Simply amend the friggin backs and leave our bloody clubs traditional strips the stuff alone. Geez what could be simpler? Every club that is deemed to clash gets a white/light back, but gets to retain their historical front. I can't find a front that seriously clashes. Look at the examples on the left of our traditional NAVY BLUE strip when we play at home and showing what the other mob would wear. Do you see any clashes?

Now look at the picture on the right of the other mobs strip when they play at home and see my solution to our Clash Strip. We satisfy all the boffins and the colour blind officials as well as short sighted spectators! The most important aspect of this is that we are the NAVY BLUES!!!

It seems logical at first glance but from inside a pack u might need a split 2nd to think.......are we white backs or dark backs today ?

The other issue that most dont seem to recognise is the huge number of males (10%+) that are colour blind to some degree.......both spectators and players.

What may seem to be a discernable difference to most spectators is not for others. Myself and my brother both have heaps of trouble telling jumpers apart when spectating from a fair distance away.

its a shame many in the afl don't have the capcity to think.

good idea,
this in conjunction with teams altering their shorts and socks (as mentioned by another poster) would solve 95% of the clases.

on the weekend
geelong wore home jumper with blue shorts
V
melbourne who wore home jumper with white shorts

there was a clash with both having navy but not one of the worst clases out there.
now if geelong wore white shorts and melbourne wore blue shorts then there would have been very ittle clash

So you would have teams wearing one colour on the front of their guernsey, and a different colour on the back? With one side clashing but not the other? I've played in a competition where a team wears a uniform that is different on front and back, and it was the most confusing game of my life.

A far simpler idea would be for closed-minded supporters to get used to the idea of wearing a simple clash strip for the two occasions each year that we have a genuine clash. You can argue over whether we need to wear it so often (there seems little need to wear it except against Melbourne, and possibly one or two others), but it is necessary. Just because something is tradition doesn't mean it can't be improved.

As our own poll has shown, support for the current clash strip is about 50:50. I'm sure that 50:50 is pretty strong one way or the other.

Frankly given all the horrific alternatives that could be foisted on us by the AFL, I'd rather we didn't touch or complain about the white jumper. Yes, it's not our beautiful jumper, but it does have the same colours and isn't an eye-sore (in fact it looks good). The only thing I'd change is our win/loss ratio in it.

The OP's solution doesn't have enough difference between clash and non-clash - not to satisfy the AFL anyway. I'm with BTDG on the front-back confusion thing too.

Just got told that the club will be dumping the Baby Blue for next season. Likely to revert to the reverse strip of Navy Monogram on a White background, but with more Navy featured. I wonder if this is similar to the one that was posted on various Carlton Forums, 6 weeks or so, ago. More interesting times ahead. Go Blues!

Has anyone got the pic or link of this possible new clash strip?

Very good and very simple idea here even though that is not Port Adelaide's home strip and there would be issues with that, very hard to make a home team wear an alternative strip though not impossible.

The other issue here is that coming up with a clas strip every year or so generates money by causing an increade in jumper sales as people tend to buy a new strip when it comes, just how much money is made and by who from creating new clash strips would be interesting to know.

I have secured permission from the original author on Carlton Supporters Club to post his suggested Clash Strip. He has sent it off to the club for consideration. Let's hope that they have considered it, as it is the best that I have seen among the myriad of other peoples attempts. It really keeps the tradition of us being the Navy Blues, but clearly does not clash with any other clubs strip.

CSC rules dictate that I have to provide a link back to them, so I will do so, by providing the url to my original thread on CSC and the url to the author's (Midget) post as well. Please find both below:

You might wonder what the watermark like impressions are on the white background. Midget thought that having the names of all the people who have been a Member for the past 5 years, in faint writing/print; would provide a great incentive and encouragement to remain a member!

He also remarked that his design is loosely based on our original strip, but with the faint text inserted. I think it looks superb. What say you?

Having members names on it would also make those on it more likely to buy the jumper as well, I would have thought.

I like it, but then again, I like our current one too.

Yes, we have a winner. Not sure about members names as there could be privacy issues. Maybe supporter could pay to have their name on it.

As for the OP. Yes we are the navy blues. Should always be our home strip. Manchester Utd are the Red Devils and tend to have 2 or 3 alternate strips.

Definately a winner for mine. Even I'd reach in my back pocket for one of these. I'd have to get longer arms.......I got rather deep pockets!

There was an snippet in the HUN today (The Grapevine) that the pale blue strip will be gone forever.

Nike are working on a more palatable alternative strip and Sticks was quoted that "fans had made it clear they disliked the clash strip"

Sticks :-
"We Are trying to incorporate blue into a white jumper and we have a couple of test versions which will be back in the next month. Nike are coming back with some sketches for us".
