I was just wondering how often, if at all, you lot go to the footy by yourselves. How different do you find it? Boring? Better? Just curious.

Only a few times. Dont mind it because you can kind of just concentrate on the game and soak it all up. But i'm one who likes to get vocal and you feel a bit of a goose if you're standing up and having a go or whatever and you're on your Pat. And when the team is really going well, you like to have someone to celebrate it with i guess.

I never have and I don't think I'd like too

But if I had no-one to go with and the Dogs were playing I'd still go

Been to the footy 5 times (4 derbies) and only once had someone with me, my dad, the other 4 times i was on my own. It was fine, i was at the footy! But when i move to perth next year i hope to get a few friends to go with.

I've gone alone once, to the Richmond game two weeks ago. I usually take my wife with me, but she had plans.

Company would have been nice, but I had a good time. It was better than staying home and watching it.

My friends don't like footy. They will only come with me if I've got spare (ie free to them) tickets, and there's nothing better on offer. So basically I don't bother asking them. Because we've had the same seats for 10 years, I usually go with family, but have for various reasons have gone on my own a few times this year. Have to say -I like it! No whining old people, no friends asking stupid questions, no twits making stupid comments really loudly and none of the friends that only go for a perve. Just me, my radio, record and the boys.

I'd rather sit on my own than with people who don't really love the game.

I've been once or twice a few years ago. Couldn't stand it, because you feel like a goose if you go nuts and no one around you does. Thus why I love M10 - you can yell as much as you like but so is everyone else. I also need to discuss the game with other people.

The Hitman

None of my mates are MCC members so I often go by myself.

I don't think I will anymore, because I never considered myself a loner and now I'm depressed. :(

I have no problems with going to the footy on my own, will happily do it if no one else I know is going. I definately dont have any hesitations to cheer for my side, I dont need the acceptance of others to do things.

I'm at ease with who I am as a person and I dont need others around me to feel comfortable in a situation. I go to movies on my own, have coffee/lunch etc on my own. There is sometimes nothing better than your own company - after-all, if you dont find yourself interesting why on earth is anyone else going to?

However, I would hardly call it being a loner, its more a matter of a means to an end.

:D

At AFL level I've done it a couple of times. It's unusual, because I have a regular group of people I'll go to games with; and even if none of them are going, thanks to the internet I'm now widely enough known that I'm able to meet up with people.
I think the last time I did it was for the Kangaroos v Richmond game at the SCG a couple of years ago - bad move, I sat near the fence and got hit in the arm by a fairly large particle that flew out of the fireworks.
I often do it at local footy, also at Sheffield Shield cricket games where no-one else wants to go. When I'm watching a game on my own I'll tend to quietly analyse proceedings; also I can walk around the ground and change my seat several times a game to get a different vantage point.

I have done it once or twice.

Last time I did it was the Essendon match last year. Ended up sneaking into the reserved section :D :D :D

Met these blokes whom I sat with and watched the footy with, great blokes too!

Had a lot of fun :p (except when it started raining, I was in my work clothes, and out in the weather )

Probably 50% of the time, although lately Ive met a few new people who I can go with.

Im not there to socialize anyway - it doesnt bother me if I go alone to be honest :D

Sums up how I feel about it perfectly.

Sure it is fine to meet up with like minded supporters that have grown to become freinds as well.

However my main objective is, was and always will be watching the game.

I went for years on my own growing up. Then when mum retired from work she came with me for around ten years or so. Then when she started to feel to old to go (about five years ago) I went back to going on my own again. This year, standing with the likes of Hitter, Chris, Sly, Rusty etc has been great. But the game still remains the sole reason for going.

Been to the footy plenty of times by myself (I live in Sydney and none of my friends follow AFL).

Go to the movies by myself all the time. I don't consider the movies a social thing - afterall, you just sit there and watch.

I've eaten at restaurants by myself.

I often play golf by myself - I don't bother playing golf on weekends because of the crowds. So if I'm not working on a weekday, I might just slip down for a quick 18 holes by myself.

I like to do what I want when I want. These are often spur of the moment things, so there isn't usually time to organise to do these things with friends. If these things are pre-arranged, I might not feel like doing it on the day, but have to go through with it as not to let people down.

I have no problems doing stuff by myself. I don't feel like a loner if I do stuff by myself.

Actually, the only thing I don't do by myself is go out. Going out is about socialising, and it is hard to do on your own. I have no probs talking to people and meeting people, but if you are solo, people tend to think you are a loner and are trying to "hang-on".

I quite like going alone. The only downside is relying on a stranger to make sure your budget/record doesn't get nicked while you go get a pie.

No but I usually go to the footy with my dad or my cousins when they are not playing or umpiring.
Which cousins? You mean Woodsy and Crawf and Stevo and Belly, and KJ and............

:D

I agree. Perfectly said Sly! ;)

Although I often go to the football (local, or AFL), and meet with either friends or family (or VLSG members), I have no problem in going to a footy match by myself, and likewise, no problems with getting into things once there either, if that be the case!

Woodsy and Gavin Dore. Sometimes Stevo.

I am not related to Peter Bell, Shane Crawford or KJ

You are a tool. No wonder DCFC banned you from Hawk HQ.

Back to the topic....I have only been by myself to one game and it was the last game at Viccy Park.

And what a sad day it was too!
I've been by myself once, and i hated it. I need somebody to talk to, and you feel like you goose if your by yourself and you just start screaming or talking to yourself. Atleast if someones with you, it looks like your talking to them.
