If we are to be a genuine top 8 side and make that next step games like last night we have to win.

The way I see it, given we lost we now need to win one that we would generally drop to get the season back on track.

Geelong round 3? Tough ask

The following week Sydney at the SCG, I think this is a game we should really set ourselves for to cause an upset and (assuming a loss to Geelong) go 2-2.

1-3 after 4 rounds would not be the start we were hoping for so Sydney will shape as an important game for us early in the season.

We have an easy draw, i penciled last night down as a lose. I think Essendon are stronger, faster, better than last year. They will move up the ladder...

We played only good football for about 20% of that match...we can improve alot and i feel optimistic now.

As long as Scott understands you can play 2 big rucks like that.

Geelong round 3? Tough ask

Scarlett probably will not be there - punched Ballatyne in the face and apparently has loading.

The again we will probably play Buddy McIntosh at FF, Goldy as FB with Petrie in the ruck for the whole game.

Bench will be Pedersen, Hansen, Grima, Sub: Mckinley

We definitely need to win either against Geelong or Sydney to keep our season on track.
We don't want our only win after 4 rounds to be just GWS.

I am having doubts about our coaching structure at the moment and flogging GWS wont ease that.

This whole Goldy/McIntosh thing combined with Wright as a defender has me worried about as much as flip flopping over Hale's development and then Tarrants.

Why do we feel obsession in ****ing around with stuff that works? We have enough as it is that doesn't work, **** around with that.

Wright is a creative attacking matchwinner. I know our backline has issues but Wright kicks goals or sets them up, having him and Harper as half forwards with license to run and roam would be a weapon.

Having Goldy in the same role as last year would be a weapon.

Talk about finals or top 8 or top 4 is just rubbish, we need to worry about getting the basics right first and that is from the coaches down.

Our coaching atm is dumb. We bomb the ****ing ball in to a guy who has 3 defenders hanging off him. How many pre-seasons do we need to correct this shit? Kick to Petrie when he is one out and on the lead. We should have set plays where Petrie decoys and drags defenders while another leads to the phat side and we go to the guy in space.

We are one of the dumbest clubs going around.

I'm not even going to touch on our kick outs...

I had us with fifteen wins the losses Essendon once, Cats, Swans, Eagles in Perth, Hawks, Collingwood and Carlton.

Now I am a realist we won't win fifteen games, we will probably drop a couple we hope to win, Richmond, Crows in melbourne, Eagles in Tassie and the other Essendon game will be tough (you never know we may still get an upset win some how against the elite), but if we don't win 12 as a minimum with this draw the whole club needs to be looked at right through the players, to coaches and right to the top.

Never forget season 2007, we lost our first three to end up with a 14 win season, so losing to a professional Essendon outfit in round 1 is hardly the end of the world for North, but this season is a big season for Brad Scott as next seasons draw may not be as kind as this one.

I want to see us win the contested ball and the clearances against GWS in the first half. They were good against Sydney before tiring, the same will happen in Tassie. If we cant manage that, then I expect we will get pasted again by Geelong the following week which will mean not much has changed in 6 months or so.

Not as pessimistic as Tas but agree with the general point that our team just has to improve how it plays, not think about which we'll win and which we'll lose. Even for supporters it's just a waste of time - for every team that signals a complete reversL of form in R1 that continues over the season, there are plenty more who fool with early successes or failures and then settle into a different pattern as the weeks go by.

Anyone who was around for North in the 1990s is not going to agree that the season is stuffed we lose two or three of the first few games. It's only the number at the end - and when you hit peak form - that matters.

Look the season is a long one and I'm sure we will hit our straps as the season goes on.We need a good win on Sunday and then we need to give the Cats game a almighty shake. Its a big ask to get over the Cats but if we play to our strengths we can do it.Play Goldy in the ruck and Mcintosh down Fwd.These guys can play together just need time.Go Roos.

2007 case in point.

It is not pessimism, after Goldy's 2011 why would you play him in defence for half a game. Give me one good reason. We need to get the CSI team in to work out who committed that crime against North humanity. That was a ****ing terrible decision, it costs us 4 points and don't think the light bulb will go off and we revert back to reality, we are going to flog this horse until it is LT tears levels of ****ing obvious it has blown our season.

Even if we could get it to work less disastrously, ****ing why play two guys to do a job one was doing. That is one mid down in the rotations, granted, it was likely going to be a mid who had **** all impact as we never have more than 2 mids extract the digit in the same week, but it is still less run nonetheless.

****ing Anthony, i watched the whole game again last night. I am pretty sure he didn't hit a target that was more than 5m away and every time someone loose for Essendon kicked a goal and they panned back to the play at the centre bounce Anthony was always standing next to him. Either he is the go to man to anyone who has scored or he is the most unaccountable player on our list.

Someone in the box has to be able to be noticing this, Shirley! :stern look

Tas, that is pretty negative.......but all valid points.

The main concerns I have that will hold us back going ahead;

1. Absolutely terrible at kickouts - have to be (or close to) worst in the league.
2. Skill level - just not good/clean enough, and turnovers kill you these days.
3. Kicking long/stupidly to 1 on 3-5 who set up purely for that kick, then run it out the other side and costs a goal 30 seconds later the other end.
4. Clearances - should not have been smashed like we were, hopefully just a bad midfield game.

I think we looked really good in parts of Sat night (missing players that should be automatic selections), and no doubt have a really bright future.....but until the basics and structure are sorted will only be making the numbers up in the 8 (thats if we make it!)
