Standing in the outer seeing the Geelong fans in the Brownlow Stand clap off the Geelong players was very annoying. Standing in that outer for years watching us rebuild and now be a side that should be top 4, yet miss the finals, but still the Geelong fans applaud the players. That is what is wrong with our club. Applading failure. Thats's disgraceful fans!!

I think you should look further down the posts for the one titled - PATHETIC FANS.

This is you all over champ. Supporters support their team no matter what.

you idiout. that is exactly the problem. people like u who accept failure from geelong. i go to every game in geelong and melbourne mate. i am with them through thick and thin. but applauding failure is not on and is why our club continues to be a mediocer club and not a powerhouse like we should be. it is unacceptable that we have not made the final let alone not being top 4 from where we were after round 2, but u applaud geelong for drawing a game against melbourne which sees the year finished. come on open ur eyes see that this is a problem

Maybe people were applauding them off as it's the last time they'll play there this season.

We had a terrible start to the year and should have made the finals definitely, but we didn't. We gave it a crack and missed a few chances but remember that in the last half of the season there is only 2 teams with a better record than us (Freo and the Saints). So not all is lost. I expect a big bounce back next year.

I don't clap based on victory or defeat, I clap based on effort, on giving it all you have and if at the end of the game, the Cats have come back from far behind, given it their all, shown the team they could have been all season, spilt blood and guts........and kidneys, then goddam it one point doesn't matter and if I want to ****ing clap I'll ****ing clap.

Don't tell me that I accept mediocrity, because the second half wasn't mediocre. I'm not happy with the season, and I think big changes need to be made. But in that second half I saw a glimpse of what we all believed in back in March. Why wouldn't I clap them.

You are the kind of ******** that would watch friday night lights, and go.............derrr they lost what a downer of an ending.

Incidentally, that's all just hypothetical. I'm in Canberra, and no I didn't clap them off then.

How does one not accept medicority? No longer support the club until they win something?

This hard ass stance on winning etc is a bit over the top. You support the club because you love 'em. Be happy when they win, be ****ty when they lose, not much else to it...

OK this example is a bit removed, but I love the club, have been to every Victorian game this year, and I am a supporter.

But there is no way I'm clapping the team off after that.

In the same way, a parent loves their child more than anything else on earth. But a parent doesn't (or shouldn't) accept mediocre or below-par behaviour from that child.

There is nothing wrong with taking a tough stance.

And I love that. Great call.

you answered your own question there.

There is definately a problem down at Geelong whereby some supporters accept medicrocy and having lived in Melbourne my whole life with family in Geelong i can see a distinct difference in the way footballers are treated in Geelong (i.e. Gods) and Melb, (more a dime a dozen).

In no way should geelong supports not get behind our team, you should always support them, buy memberships etc, lets not be like st Kilda who have 32000 members now, but when they suck have nothing!!

However we must be tough and strong and not clap crap!! as was said earlier you can still love and support your team without being ok with some of the crap they put in!

I would never clap Geelong for playing **** and i challenge anyone to tell me that means i don't love my club, all it means is that i have a standards of play, effort, skill etc that i expect and if they are not achieved then i have a problem.

The cats DID WELL, very well to come back and for that they deserve some applause, however THEY SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN IN THAT POSITION IN THE FIRST PLACE, 38 points behind!! and for that we shouldn't clap!!

They don't deserve applause when you take into consideration, not simply the melbourne game, but the whole season....... and that why people are getting angry, not because of that game, but the overall season and the message that some people feel is being conveyed about the season by clapping them off, when they don't win and loose any remote chance they had of making finals, regardless of the effort which was displayed to get back into a winning position!!!!

either way, support them and we can have another shot next year!!!
GO CATS!!!!!

Pods, the correct word is lose. Loose is what happens to a prostitute. Lose is what the Cats do.

I would have thought our start could not have been better. Won the NAB Cup and then belted the opposition in the first 2 games. Sounds like a good start to me. Missed a few chances? 10 losses is more than a few chances. You might be right about our record in the second half of the season but strangely enough finals spots are granted on how you perform over 22 games, not the last 11. I can't think of another industry where poor performances are conveniently forgotten - not just by the club but by obedient fans and the media.

Allow me to reiterate something, we have gotten progressively worse and finished lower on the ladder the last 2 seasons. Finished 4th in 2004, 6th in 2005 and missed finals in 2006.

How can you defend that?
