How DEVISTATING is this?!?!?!

I had a bit of a Barry Crocker today, went to the pub to watch the Crows get SMASHED by the Swans, then came home a few hours later to find one of my windows jimmied open... ruh roh... sure enough i opened the door and my home entertainment shit was gone :(

Oddly enough the didn't take my computer (which was sitting right next to the tv cabinet ). And thank Jesus for that - last night I stayed up kinda late downloading some, *cough*, rather compromising short films that I would die if anyone found out about. We all have our quirks.

Which brings me to the Gaybox 360, Gaystation2 and Gaystation Portable. losing them's not such a big deal; I'm ensured so things should eventually get worked out. I was mostly gutted about my savegames that I'll not be getting back!

Over the course of last week I put in 40 hours working on a Dragon Age character so I could play with him in the expansion pack. I planned on giving him a razz tonight actually. Obviously not gonna happen now and I'm not sure when I'm gonna be bothered to put in those kinds of hours to that particular game again.

Similarly with Final Fantasy, I got 25 hours in last week, and was taking a break for Dragon Age. Astute followers of overrated Japanese roleplaying games will know, of course, that the 25 hour mark is the time at which that game apparently steps things up. I was planning on taking my time, savouring the moment. Should have just pretended it was one of the krispy kreme boxes i eat every night and gorged myself on it in one hit. would have seen the end of it that way. Never will now.

Don't get me started on Mass Ef****enfect 2 either, grrrr. I hope whoever has my old xbox doesn't play as my hot kinky lesbian sheperd, they are not worthy :thumbsd:

I reckon the insurance people ought to have a couple of dedicated gamers who get on to this sort of thing - guys that will put a bunch of hours into your favourite video games and give you a copy of the downloadable saves for when you get your new kit.

You guys got any similar stories? Maybe a virus made you wipe your hd?

Rightio I'm going to bed to play my Creature of Havok Fighting Fantasy book.

PS: for those of you who are in to buying nicked computer games, keep an eye out for a mint copy of castlevania symphony of the night for like $2 or whatever they go for.

Ugh, that sucks man. I know I'd be shattered if I lost my saves. Used to suck back when memory cards were used for storage and you couldn't find the one you needed..

There are sites out there (gamefaqs.com among many others) that people upload saves to. It's very possible that you could find a save files similar to your current progress in your old saves, especially Final Fantasy and the like which don't offer branching stories.

With regards to Mass Effect, you can change your Shepherd on the transition from ME to ME2, so you could change him/her back to how she was in your previous game. The same might be possible in Dragon Age too, although I can't recall and don't have access to my usual PC at the moment so can't confirm :(

That sounds rather....strange...

I couldn't stand that happening to me, I'd be shattered, so many lost hours of gaming down the drain.

That's why I always keep several data backups of my PS3's data around the house. Have a 1.5TB HDD with all my PS3 data on and a few USB's with all my save data on. Just like to always keep a failsafe.

I should probably send a USB to Fort Knox just to make sure that nobody can ever access my saves, but then I wouldn't be able to update the save data on the USB.

Sorry to hear about your situation VD, but maybe it's a reason to move over to the PS3?:D You are worthy.:thumbsu:

Cheers guys

aah that sounds promising, will have to check out a few of those sites later on and see what's on offer. Thanks :thumbsu:

Haha! We'll see ;)

Mind you, with the amount of money i'll likely get back from insurance i'll probably be rocking the Sega Mastersystem for the foreseeable future, lol

My sister's ex boyfriend had a 96% completion of GT2 on the PS1.

He was saving his game 1 day and his mum came in to vacuum the lounge and unplugged the PS1 in the middle of the save, wiping ALL GT2 data from it. OUCH.

I remember it like it was yesterday.

It was January 2005. While Shannon Noll was blitzing the Aus charts with his stirring rendition of Cmon, Aussie Cmon, a little band known as Greenday had a song called Boulevard of Broken dreams at Number 5.

Apt really considering the pain that was to befell me that dreaded month.

Grand theft auto San andreas had hit the shelves just a few months earlier, a stirling game, tho maybe without the character of Vice City, still a worthy use of my gaming time.

I toiled for months. Diligently finishing all the missions, finding all the hidden items and doing all the lame side missions like taxi driver and lowrider hydraulic dancing to get that much sort after 100% completion.

This was the time of the Playstation 2. A simpler time unsullied by meaningless rewards like gamerpoints and trophies. You completed games for the self satisfaction...and nothing else.

I had played the crap out of that game, right up to the point of just neediing to complete a few meaningless races to get my 100%. The completion meter was at a healthy 98% the day i went to work in mid january. My brother in law and sister were holidaying with me at the time, relaxing in SW west oz while they waited for his transfer to go through.

Bored, my BIL decided to play some playstation, and on my returning home did exclaim how great a game that GTA was, so fun, he'd been playing it all day.

I went white as a sheet and immediately checked the save file.

Completion 5%

My slot was gone, and i was a broken man.

I never did forgive him for that...

I looked somewhat like this dog while recalling that painful event

:D:D

That is awesome

I feel your pain though, man. It's just not RIGHT :(

The new xbox update is made for stuff like this VD. Allows storing of game saves on USB devices

http://www.majornelson.com/archive/...upport-for-the-Xbox-360-coming-April-6th.aspx

Unless you leave your usb stick plugged into the xbox when they steal it of course:o

Ah that is brilliant, I'll be taking full advantage of that, cheers :thumbsu:

And don't worry, I won't leave it plugged into the xbox, I'll be keeping that one safe the same way Christopher Walken hides watches in Pulp Fiction!

PS here is a top 5 list of things the thieves didn't steal from my shanty

5) Computer + 23 inch moniter + pr0n
4) Fighting Fantasy gamebooks
3) Scale Patrick Bateman action figure complete with scale VHS of Inside Lydia's Ass
2) My dignity
1) 1980's Astro Boy DVD box set! Fools!

On a side note, I noticed with some humour that they'd nicked an entire row of CD's from one of my shelves. All, that is, except for one CD - A Kings of Leon album. I take solace in knowing that I at least got burgled by thieves with a reasonable taste in music.

I hate an awesome Diablo 1 character on the PS complete with Constricting Ring...of course the save file was corrupted next time I tried to load it.

Other than that the most common issue I had was playing a game and getting so into it for hours and forgetting to save. Die, realise how long its been, never play again :(.

Hey jakey, you do realise that if your xbox was connected to live (even with a free silver account) that your gamer profile at least is saved online and you can download it to a new xbox?

Doesn't have your saves, but it has all your other info like achievements, downloaded game licences and such
