My understanding is that we offered him a one year deal, which is good practice for players known to have behavioural problems. You keep the player on the edge and having to perform on and off the field. Essendon must have felt that Lovett played his best one a one year contract or didn't deserve a multi-year contract and Lovett obviously felt that he had some "value" in the current trade market after his best year and made the decision to move on where he could set himself up after football.
The carrot for Lovett to behave himself now is going to be a premiership. He will be a short term loss, but you can't win them all.
I wouldn't be surprised if Hamilton didn't answer all questions to protect the club and to also protect Lovett. It's called being professional. You don't want to air all your bad laundry.
