A priceless little article from one of the regional papers over this way - congrats to the journo, a great repost to some of the Cameron Schwab media hysterics of the last few days.

The wheels on the Karma bus go round and round, round and round...
Loyalty extinct in the business of sport

As Geelong's James Kelly surmised, in any other line of work people would be congratulating Scully for his pay rise.

Among the people trying to convince him to stay were Melbourne CEO Cameron Schwab and football manager Chris Connolly.
While they still had blood on their hands from the sacking of Bailey in late July, these men would have been preaching the virtues of remaining a one-club player.

The problem was, neither of them could back it up.

A tad dramatic. Loyalty is dead and buried? Let's ignore all the players, dozens every year (if not more), that re-sign with their existing clubs despite the lure of much bigger money at other clubs and just pay attention to the few that take the money. Fair dinkum.....a hell of a lot more players stay loyal than not, yet this drama queen is suggesting that it's dead and buried? Nah.

Sorry, I missed all of that, just saw the digs at Schawb And Cuddles and went boo-yah!!!

Seriously, it is a regional paper, no need to be so aggressively dismissive, just pleased that not every media outlet has fallen for the Cameron/Chrissie/Gazza Lyon "we was robbed" cryfest.

Tanking scum of a club got what it deserved.

Yeah, I hope they choke on their two first round picks!

Melbourne will end up with a team that is half first rounders and half priority picks. They are going to suffer.

i personally don't care about club loyalty and don't begrudge a player leaving to better his life. clubs are quick enough to get rid of players they don't have a use for anymore. i do think it's on the way out, and will be exacerbated by free agency.

The reason more don't move is because of the restraints on trade by the AFL. They make it extremely difficult, free agency can't come soon enough even in it's caged form.

A little over 1% of players have changed clubs in the last 10 years?

If any business had that turn over in staff, they'd probably think they were doing something wrong and would start turfing people.

AFL clubs don't realise how lucky they have it in terms of player loyalty. Other major sporting leagues (MLB, NBA, NRL, all soccer leagues, etc.) have more than 10 times as many unloyal Chris Judd types than AFL by the year.

My NRL club had the competition's leading points scorer, who decided to sign on to another club from 2012. The club just got over it, moved on and let him continue to play out the season.
