One of these guys must stand up as a backman. Having heard good things about him during the pre-season I was disappointed with LRT yesterday. He seems to get lost at times, and lack composure when he has the ball or the chance to get it. James last year looked like he was trying too hard, and dropped his head early when beaten by bigger, better opponents. Given the strength of our forwards (ATM) and ruck (again ATM), I think the only opportunity for these guys is in the backline. Assuming that James is fit to play in the next week or so, who is it going to be - well, who would you rather? Or is there space for both?

LRT needs a run of a few games to see what he can produce. Heath James is an interesting one, I think he would make a solid 3rd defender, perhaps take the kind of forwards Craig Bolton is marking now, and allow Bolton to move further upfield. So I don't think they're playing for the same position, although they probably won't find themselves in the same team.

I figured as much... ;)
Not exclusively, was just going to add something like: "Charlie you are welcome to reply but I expect not to be shocked by your opinion".

I think they are different kinds of defenders and neither is just experienced enough to flex his style depending on an afternoon's particular requirements.

James is a more dependable mark and probably reads the play slightly better at this stage. LRT's major attribute is his foot speed and endurance (for his size).

I think it will be a "horses for courses" approach - ie depending on how Roos wants to use Barry, B2, Goodes - in each game.

Hey Liz, just a quick note to say how much I enjoy your posts. You seem to know a stack about the game and also seem to be very objective with your comments - both here and on RWO. Please keep it up.
