Re: Lucy is goneski!!

Cant believe it. Thought that he had 2 year deal as all new players get in the draft. Was u18 All Australian Full Back before injuries got him and thought he would have been safe for few years. This is what happens when we re-sign bolton and have to free up a spot for draft picks. Wiouldn't be surprised if we re-draft him with a late pick. :thumbsd:

Rookie list.

Re: Lucy is goneski!!

i would think essendon has guranteed him that they will pick him up on a rookie list if he does not get picked up by another club in the drafts.

would rather have kept him than bolton.

strange deicision from the bombers!

Lucy de-listed

Monday, October 23, 2006
Essendon has today de-listed 19-year-old Austin Lucy. After being taken with the club's final selection in the 2005 NAB National Draft (66 overall), Lucy was unable to manage a senior game this year. Lucy joins Aaron Henneman, Joel Reynolds and Tristan Cartledge from the primary list who were notified last week they would not have their contracts renewed. While rookies Ben Jolley and Tim O'Keefe were also delisted.

I am a little surprised although it has been on the cards for a few weeks. As far as our list goes it is the right choice. His form was average , his skills are questionable and he doesnt look like he has the ingrediants to become the key position player we need.He was average and wouldnt have gone far.

I am also a little surprised.
You think they would of given him a game or two this season when we were well and truly out of it... or even the last couple of rounds the rookies/0 gamers could of had a go...

Lets see what we get instead...
but it's a pitty.

He has already popped up on some team boards..

Im abit annoyed that Bolton was kept on the list and Lucy wasnt given a chance. I mean Lucy didnt set the world on fire after his 1st season, and Bolton has been average for 9 seasons and still gets a contract.

Yes maybe but lets face it we have removed a number of duds from our list. Bolton is going to be more value in one season than Lucy will and secondly we are more likely to pick up something better than Lucy in this years draft.

i really think he could comeback and haunt you'se brisbane could bring out the best in him and turn him into a top class f.b:D

This is a bit of a shock, we were disappointed that he wasnt picked up by the Lions last year. I would say he is a chance of getting rookied by the lions, but what is the real story? All-australian CHB wasnt he? What happens if we (lions) want to rookie him as well as Essendon?

Lucy won't make it, Bolton has experience and kept for one more year and we are still going to draft another 6 kids from a strong draft, nothing wrong with it IMO, everyone we have delisted isn't good enough, next year will be our last year of easy de-listings

You'd hafta take him in the rookie draft before we do, I'll doubt we'd bring him back anyway, knock yourselves out, give him a go :thumbsu:

True....but where in a rebuilind process trying to get back to the top that isnt going to happen in 1 year. Bolton may offer us some OK football next season, but lets get realistic, he isnt goin to be around when we are next challenging for the flag in 2-4 years. In that time a young Defender in Lucy could be given experience and ready to go when fletcher retires and give us another option in the backline.

It is very simple, his AA fullback selection as a top aged player in an average year draft wise made him a bit over rated. A lot of clubs must have seen it as he went to 66 in the draft. If he was a lock to be a good player it is doubtfull that everyone would have passed on him 4 times. Having seen all of his footy for Bendigo this year i can say his skills are ordinary, he didnt show any signs of being able to play a KP role. In fact the only time he looked reasonable (which wasnt often) was when he played halfback/wing.
As far as him being rookied i suspect he will nominate for both drafts and will be available for anyone to pick him up if they want him.

A young defender with ordinary skills that didnt show anything this year to say he will make it as a backman. The only time he showed any form was when he was played on the wing. I suspect we will take a couple of backmen in this draft and they will be 5 times what Lucy is.
