Lucy Delisted

Why would you waste money on a player who may turn out to be a decent player. Granted, he may also not have made it, but what's the point in paying a player out if he could still have something to contribute to the team?

Maybe Sheedy has a PSD nominee in mind?

Because he is no good and we'd rather cut our 35k losses and give a kid from this draft a go.

Why de-list him if we would just pick him up in the PSD?

Delisting Lucy is the right football decision.
Is it the right ethical decision- I say no.
I thought we honoured contracts at Essendon- whoops only people who are paid huge amounts of money and can complain to the media.
I strongly believe it is a very ordinary decision especially after we delisted players last year because of their 'questionable character'.
The kid has moved down from Qld, signed a 2 year and we aint honoured his contract.
Delisting bolton and to a lesser extent peverill is the right football decision.
Funny that.

You have a point on ethics, be what's to say he isn't homesick, or he'd be better off at home or somewhere else if we didn't think he'd make it, what's to say the club didn't sit down with him and discuss things, none of us know the whole story or any of the story

He obviously wasn't given a chance because Sheedy and the coaching staff felt he never had a chance at making it at AFL level.

We used a pick60 on him so he can't be that much of a loss lads.

Freeing up some space on our list for all our picks in this super-draft. Can't wait until the draft.

Fair enough, well reasoned response. The cynic in me doubts it especially when Lonergan was mentioned as a chance to be delisted and he was in the same boat as Lucy. Id like to think kids who are drafted get 2 years to prove themselves. Its an easy out for clubs to chop a kid after one year without any accountability.

Lonergan came about because of poor journalism, and everyone on here ran with it, he was always safe and for good reason, he showed a lot at VFL level and performed well in his senior outing.

I dont think it was a bad deicsion to keep Bolton and delist Lucy. They wouldnt delist him if they thought he was good enough so i am comfortable with the decision. He was too small to play on KPP players and we have plenty of those types of players already. Nash, Slattery, Welsh etc
Maybe there is another team that offered us something for him during trade week. Such as a 5th round pick which we wouldnt want to use. Instead we said we would delist him and you can pick him up in the PSD or rookie draft which will mean we dont have to use a late draft pick and instead can use it in the PSD.
Our problem was who to delist next year but I think it has become much clearer with Pev and Bolton getting 1 year contracts it would be something like this:

retire:
Hird
Campo

Delist:
Pev
Bolts
Maybe another player who doesnt perform during the year...

The only player with a Davis type name drafted by Carlton in 2001 was Justin Davies.

So the rookie draft isn't a draft?

Carlton drafted Michael Davis in the rookie draft after he spent one year at Essendon. From memory, he then went to the SANFL.
