Toast Luke Ball & Alan Toovey

Two much maligned players, and I know how much negativity will come out of this game, so before it does, I'd like to raise a toast to these two men.

They aren't that skillful, but they never gave up. Ball was in and under everything and tried his absolute best. Clearance after clearance, he worked his arse off.

Toovey did a good job, never stopped trying and took a few good marks and gave his all as well. They are just a couple, along with Beams, Swan, Pendles who could hold their head high.

I toast them both :thumbsu:

hooray ... finally something positive
there were plenty of positives, and these 2 were some of them
dayne beams on a big stage
dale thomas again
our defence ... dont blame the back 6 on this loss, look from the centre square forward
the fact that we took it up to them except for the last 5 mins

but there were a couple of negatives, how come we cant have someone in the corridor to stop teams going through there?????? and why do we allow the spare man???? i'd rather milburn manned up by someone than having maxy free down back

Agree, add Reid to those names. Luke Ball was born to play for the Pies.

Other positives, we got a big game into some young players that we benefit greatly from this contest.

If we had of said we'd keep Geelong to 12 goals (even though they got 2 late cheapies) we'd have taken that in a minute.

Good effort by our defenders with the amount of ball that was coming in for periods during this game.

Luke Ball is a turn over KING... You guys gloat about him like he's chris judd. Whats the point of working so hard to get the ball then giving it up straight away. He's gona start to tire at round 13 or so. Trust me ive seen it first hand for a few years.......

Wow, another saints fan turning on Ball. Who would have thought.

One thing is for sure, he's doing better this year than Reiwoldt.

He isn't there to deliver to our forwards. He is there to win the ball around stoppages, and he is doing that perfectly. His disposal is below average, but we can afford that as long as Obree is out of the side [hint hint]. Run along now, we got him for free... you have Armitage remember?

He is there and he is fortunate and a good example of giving young players a guaranteed start and not dumping them after one game. McCaffer is copping it all over the shop, fair call, but think back to the golden run Allan had, he was shit. Reid is finally playing successive games, so too Wood.
Love Fraser & Obree all you like, the future is elsewhere.

Top effort by Ben Reid... he's really starting to show why he was a top 10 pick in '06. His field kicking is good, his defensive work is good, he just needs to keep his feet a little more and he'll get a whole lot more effective. Has easily gone passed the anvil Leighroy Brown in my reckoning.

As for Ball and Toovey, just consistently playing their role for the side. I like it!

LOL.
First he couldn't kick over a jam tin...wrong.
Next he is old and his OP will limit his game time and possessions....wrong.
Next he's not a goal kicker...wrong.
Next he walked out on the Saints...wrong and a blatant lie.

So now he's going to tire in round 13....

What next...?

**** off back to St Failure and count your spoons.

I suppose they will get one right eventually. Like throwing darts at a dartboard, bound to hit it sooner or later.

Personally thought Toovey was very average.

There were two efforts that were extremely poor and the commentators thought so to judging by the tones of their voices.

One was the mark inside Geel F50 in the 3rd term where he didn't push back or go hard enough to intercept- rather just watched it go over him that allowed the Cats to mark.

The other was again in the 3rd term this time inside the centre square/wing area where he again did not push back hard enough, rather just put the one hand out and "reached" for the footy. He had to push back alot harder and commit the body to the contest, even if it meant he got crunched. These types of efforts really become noticeable, particularly in close games.

These are just the type of areas where I think Goldsack is far better at as he is fearless at the contest. Toovey has had a good season but I still think the Sack is better than him at the jobs he does.

The 774 team nominated Toovey amongst 3 players unable to go to the next level in big games.

thats the thing, he cant kick over a jam tin. last night he was about 40 metres out, directly in front, decides to dish it off because he knew he couldn't make distance and turns it over. he also looked very slow running through the midfield.
don't get me wrong, he did alot of good things last night and i'm starting to miss him as the season gets on and he hits form, but his body just isn't the same after all those bouts of OP and hamstraing injuries. but hey, i'm glad that he is starting to hit some form for you guys. i've always kept a keen interest in bally and i thought we treated him very unfairly. good luck for the rest of the season :thumbsu:

Without Ball's work in the packs last night we would've lost by 15 goals. He's one of the best in the league at getting first hands on the footy.
