He seams to have been on our list for ages. I know nothing about him but there is a lot of talk on here about him going to be a gun ruckman. He is only 197cm, seams a bit small. I'm gonna give him the benefit of the doubt cuz i havent seen him play. Can any1 plz give me a rundown of this kid. I'm interested in what he has to offer. Cheers

I saw him play with BH and I was really impressed! He just dominated the game, simply because he could jump twice as high as his opponent! He's also really agile and is a hard worker! I only saw the one game so can't be completely sure, but anyone who can jump that high and has that agility could be lethal in the AFL.. hopefully! Also he may be slightly similiar to Jeff White, just kinda ugly looking. :)

He was drafted with only limited experience at AFL, was more of a basket ball player. His ruck abilities have been compared with Jeff White as he is under size but has an incredible leap. Whats most to like about Luke though is his agility and his ability to get around the park. Some reports say he isnt getting enough of the ball but I have faith in the boy.

Only been on the list for 2 seasons, and looks very likely to be senior listed. 'Nesty' has worked hard from the ressies to get where he is at, and it seems the coaching staff really rate the boy. You would think he has probably secured another 2 years at the club.

Agree Roughie..............Bottom line.......if the coaching staff and Pelchim elevate him they will do it thinking that he will be good enough to play.

We have a shite hot list of up and coming ruckmen now when we looked stuffed a couple of years ago. hats off to recruiting.

However I reckon it might be timing with McEnsizeoftree.

Look at this list

Campbell
Bailey
Taylor
Renouf (Who is my tip for big 2008 jumper)
then McEntee.

There's some serious quality he has to get in front of, and I think he's spent a lot of time in BH magoos?

He is a tad short for a ruckman in todays football however he makes up for the lack of cms with a Jeff White type of leap. He gets up very high off only a couple of steps.

According to Todd Viney earlier this year when talking to RustyHawk and me he said Luke had the best hands of anyone at the club (that's hitting the target with the tap).

I asked if Luke might make a KPP and TV said he did not think so, he was really a ruckman.

Luke (to date) has not been a big catcher of the ball in and around the ground but it seemed to me that as the 2007 season progressed he became more influential in games other than as merely a tap ruckman.

I think his future will depend on an assessment of the potential and time line for Bailey and Renouff. If they are likely to be in line for seniors on a regular basis in 2008, then maybe Luke will be at the tail behind them and Campbell and Taylor and whether the list needs 5 ruckmen or only 4.

We will know in a couple of days when the decisions about the rookie list are released.

Mmmm - I get to a few BoxHill games and I'm not sure I've ever seen him dominate. More so some flashes of potential.

Whilst he has the leap I'm not sure he's a natural footballer.
As mentioned, he's not played much footy which probably accounts for why he doesn't read the play very well.
Often he'll arrive just that second too late to be involved in the contest.
That said he has improved out of sight in his two years as has his stamina and running techniques.

Forget about any other position but the ruck. It's not going to happen.
The attempts to date have met with little or no success.

His leap will see him beat VFL standard ruckman but he struggles with the stronger experienced guys who thorw him around like a rag doll.

His elevation would be a calculated gamble and a one year deal would be my preference if any.
The selection will come down to him or an unknown forth round draft pick so we're not talking sheep stations here.
I'm out on my own on this one but I'm not of the opinion that we need another ruckman at this stage.
I'd far rather use that late pick on Todd Grimma from the Cats.
Think of it this way - it's a replacement for Josh Thurgood (eg last on the list stuff.)

Thanks Dr. J.

I've been waiting for a review with greater depth than "He's got a good leap". (Not that I know anymore myself).

I have only seen a handful of games on ABC TV and haven't been overwhelmed. A big leap, good hands, no other outstanding football skills or physical attributes, noticably small as a ruckmen (Robbie & Big Tail's are normal size ruckmen these days), and I've never seen a game or a game review where he really dominated (I'm talking BOG type performance).

Hope I'm wrong.

Go to the footydraft.com and the 2005 mock draft?. McEntee, I think you'll find was rated higher than big Max Bailey. His development at BH, both physically and confidence are huge plusses. His is fantastic aerobically, and his palming is already great to watch. I however think with his athleticism, that he is another option for a galloping CHB.

i hope i eat my own words but you can tell its the off season everyone talks about all the different players as tho next year will be their year but as usual it doesnt happen.

Luke is not an afl player you all will be laughing at him like josh thurgood (i liked josh by the way) and zac dawson. he is not afl standard i have seen him play for bh and wasnt that good.

lets look at someone like tuck or kennedy as the next big thing they have more chance.

I dont think anyone is rating Nesty that highly but the coaches, I think every one on this forum expect a ruck duo of Renouf and Bails in the future, and McEntee being a back up.

I didn't.. :(

I hope Bailey and McEntee are our ruckman, Renouf plays a CHB position and interchanges with McEntee for the ruck, while McEntee plays CHF. That's my vision.. lol!

I have other visions too but they don't relate to football.

I've seen him at BH too and he was good. He has shown alot of improvement over the past 12 months and the club has stated they want 5 ruckman.

Nothing wrong with pumping up the tyres of a kid that made a transition from basketball, plays his guts out and is showing improvement.

I hope he does prove me wrong but in no game i have seen, has he been dominant just average. He is quick for a big man but gets pushed off the ball far too easy and doesnt have strong hands, you need to dominate at VFL level before afl (obviously). Improvement doesnt make you an afl football player. Good luck to him tho

Any ideas how old he is?

I would say that there would be a fair bit of development space left in him. He's obviously played limited AFL, and i'm presuming he's pretty young. We all know that ruckmen take a fair while to develop properly, so I think we should give him a shot on the main list and put up a "watch this space" sign.

I am sick and tired of reading and hearing all this rubbish about ruckmen playing KPB. If anyone seriously thinks that a Robbie Campbell or a Brent Renouf or a Luke McEntee or any other big blonk could possible have the aerobic capacity to keep up with and shut down a Nick Riewoldt, Jonathon Brown, Barry Hall....i shant go further. If anyone can tell me that a ruckman can do such a thing I will eat their dirty rotten smelly filthy jocks. Please will these people wake up to themselves and stop talking and thinking such crap. Have a nice day :)

PS. Go hawks.

I'm not having a go at anyone. Simply stating facts about the athletic ability of ruckmen in general. I actually am very happy with the kids we have.
don't worry i know your not i am just putting a warning to others to keep it nice though i don't think i have ever seen a mean word said about luke it was just in case sorry [ i do know he reads this forum] :thumbsu:

i like all the ruck man we have they are all great

from what i have seen of him he has a huge leap on him. impressed with the way he took out digby morrell one game as well (gee, i hope it was luke, i may be mistaken??). didn't look like he carried enough weight to do the damage he caused, but exactly what you want from the big guys, split the packs and issue out some pain.

he's young and still has plenty of work to do to make it, but what i can see is that he has way more upside than taylor and probably campbell in the long term.
