According to Burton McGuane's knee has blown up again. Could be we won't see him in senior Lions colours again.

Unfortunate if correct. Thought he had a reasonable game preseason last year. Game against the swans? I hoped for a spectacular Martin-like mid year revival. All the best Luke if this is the end.

Reserves Wrap - Gold Coast Suns - 04/04/2015 (Shane Woewodin's comments)

We played Luke higher up the ground this week as a high half forward – getting him involved around the ball. We might lose him this week with injury (knee), but, he gaves us some ascendency and a bit more seniority around the pill. Probably hovered a little too much behind the ball rather than equalizing, but it was good to get him up and around the game.

Where's he at now?

I had high hopes he would really add something when he came "home" from the Tiges.

Didn't play on the weekend. Clearly his knee is stuffed. Is quite possibly the player that is rumoured to be retiring.

He's really got to think about what life will be like post footy with a knee that bad.

Or ask Ryan Harris how he continues to be legendary even with no cartilage in his knee

Just bring in McGuane for the big games, once every year or so? :P

Just had surgery by the looks of it.
May be some hope for him yet. My right knee is buggered , bone on bone
Bit young yet for a knee replacement, bloody painful and I'm not running around on a footy field any longer. Hope the docs can sort it for him.

Can't see Luke or Stakes being at the club next season; injuries have erased any chance they had to become regular contributors :(

Started as a wing, his first game back for a long period off (pre-season v. StKilda). Started as a wing, definitely looked short of a gallop but hopefully to build on similar to Wattsy and then played the rest of the game as a forward. He had some opportunities to mark the ball. He could have probably kicked three or four had of he taken those chances but good to have Sticks back as well.

Second game back for Sticks. He’s covering the ground so much better now, he looks to be less inhibited by that knee which is a good sign. He’s just gaining more confidence with more time on ground. He probably got better as the game wore on. Particularly in the last quarter where he has kicked two goals. He kicked the first one of the day as well. He’s kicked three for the day for us with limited opportunities but he provided some good leadership as a forward.

Reserves Wrap - Sydney - 01/08/2015 (Shane Woewodin’s comments)

Luke continues to improve and get better after coming back from his knee injury. He’s had 24 possessions this week, he played a little bit behind the ball at times throughout the day just to stem the bleeding from the Swans. His ability to lead from the front, he was really good in the contest for us. He still had four shots on goal, he kicked 1.3 but certainly puts himself into selection for senior mode.

454-day wait over for McGuane

Luke McGuane will end an infuriating 454-day wait between games when he returns to the Brisbane Lions side on Saturday for a 109th career outing that he refused to concede would never happen.

Sidelined by a recurring knee injury since 3 May last year and subjected to five operations in that period, the 28-year-old forward fully expects to relive the nerves of his youth when he runs out against the Gold Coast Suns at the Gabba in Q-Clash #10.

“It’ll almost be like playing my first game all over again,” he said, having debuted for Richmond as a 19-year-old in May 2006.

Brisbane's Luke McGuane found guilty by AFL tribunal

Brisbane's Luke McGuane will pay a $1500 fine after being found guilty at the AFL tribunal on Tuesday night.

McGuane was charged with rough conduct against Carlton's Kade Simpson during the first quarter of their match on Saturday night.

Video of the incident showed McGuane tackled Simpson, pulling him to the ground.

Simpson remained on the grass for a few moments before getting up and did not need medical treatment.

McGuane said he "probably" did not know Simpson had disposed of the ball as he completed the tackle.

Simpson was a "smaller, craftier" player, McGuane said, so he had dropped to his knees to try to ensure he did not give away a free kick for tackling too high.

AFL legal counsel Jeff Gleeson said McGuane had seen Simpson get rid of the ball and still chose to drive him into the ground.

Luke McGuane On The Mend

BRISBANE Lions forward Luke McGuane faces a battle with his beleaguered body if he is to win a new contract for 2016.

McGuane, 28, has struggled with crippling knee injuries in the past two seasons, enduring six surgeries, before returning to play well in the past fortnight.

McGuane's manager Tim Batty is in talks with the club, and AFL.com.au understands McGuane's future rests on whether he can get through the remaining three rounds without his body breaking down.
