It wasn't pretty, but let's not crucify the guy. It's been a long time since an opposition felt some aggression from MFC, and with a few other solid hits around the same time, I got the feeling that a few Collingwood players were starting think about what might be coming next . Sometimes it seems just about every opposition team thinks they can dish out anything to MFC and nothing will come back the other way. Not saying you have to run around bashing guys, but for once MFC players were not on the receiving end of the tough stuff.

I cant stand Fasolo, the cocky little....
Good on Tappy for showing a thirst for the contest.

Players will eventually learn to get out of his road.

Agreed with this. I think players like Tapscott are great for the side. I don't advocate players bashing opposition teams, but a bit of the rough stuff is good to see. Melbourne need to start letting teams know they aren't going to be physically pushed around.

FWIW I thought he had a good game. Will continue to improve too.

Quite astounding you think that. I thought he had a pretty decent game.
If he used his aggression with two eyes on the ball, and not one on the man; he'd be gunning it.

That spoil on Swan in the 2nd or 3rd was a classic example - he didn't even attempt to take him out.

He's got a lot to learn but I think he can be a really good player.

I find it strange that for the past 2 years we've been saying we want aggression, hard hits and big bodied players to stand up against opposition teams, yet once we get them and they are put in use we immediately say that it was stupid and they shouldn't be doing it. Who cares if it was stupid, it sent a message that we aren't going to be the soft runover, bruise free demons and that you had better watch out.

I'm not saying what he did was right but i kinda liked it.

From where i was sitting (behind the goals, Southern Stand End) i watched Tapscott the whole way to the marking contest and i saw he had his eyes on the ball the whole time, and he went in the with clinched fist pretty early in. I think he probably saw late he was gonna not make the spoil towards the end and he already had his arm out so he used it on the body and made Fasolo 'earn' the mark.

Again i'm not saying what he did was right but i didn't mind it. That was my view on it anyway

I for one loved the hit and the aggression shown by Tapscott and Clark on Monday. Jordies nitpicking of Thomas was great as well, took him out of the game. What was making it more pleasing what hearing the Collingwood supporters whinge about it.

Should have been 2, but I'm pretty sure they offered him 1 since Fasolo is a cocky prick who probably deserves to get hit every now and then

Should have been x1 50m penalty. Fasolo fined for staging.

I loved seeing this, yes it was dumb but you could see the pies falling apart a little after that hit. I'm just spewing Tappy won't be out there to lay a massive one of $cully :(

There'll be plenty others (including the fans) who will.

We keep playing like this and that 'bruise free' tag will be gone.

neeld wanted us to be the hardest team to play against, we are on the way!
Carlton have already taken it from us. Pretty poetic really.

Only problem I have with this is the bad record he'll get - one day he'll do the same again and get 3 weeks.

Yeah but players will think twice beofre intercepting kicks that are coming his way

I don't really see what he did as the sort of 'toughness' you should strive for. Think of Sylvia and Davey in the game against the Tigers last year, giving out the odd elbow and stupidly high tackles. Actually, look at Sylvia and every time he tries to be tough. He puts on the odd late hit, takes out players going for marks, so what? That's not smart play and does nothing for your own team; the opposition will just wear it and take the free/50m. We need toughness, yes, but discipline too. Hard tackles that players can't escape, good shepherds to help out your mates in close. Hitting a prick like Fasolo late, while enjoyable simply because he's a little prick and I hate him, is not what the players should be trying to acheive. Get rid of the 'bruise-free' tag by beating the opposition to the ball, or worrying them off of it with hard, LEGAL tackles/bumps.

Obviously this is the case, and the players are slowly but surely starting to adopt a genuinely hard (and fair) style of play under Neeld (none more so than Tapscott). Let's not forget how hard he goes at the ball...the guy is fearless.

However, there's nothing wrong with having a few blokes send out little warning signals to other teams, making them think twice about doing things like standing in the path of a player, trying to rough up smaller and younger players etc. All the great teams had enforcers...we just need to embrace that fact and let our natural bulls (like Tapscott) play a bit on the edge at times.

Don't think other teams aren't doing/ going to do the same to us.
