Is it me or do the Rookie listed players on our list appear to be more advanced than our draftees (Byron Schammer excepted).

Did he have one knee reconstruction last year making it 2 in 3 years? I know a young Fremantle guy did, but dunno who.

He had at least one, but has come back strongly this year winning the simpson medal for best WA player in the WAFL vs SANFL during the break.

Yeah, he's the one then that I read about last year. Good to see he has come back strong.

If he plays against us, I hope he plays well. As hard as it is wishing an opposition player to play well.

Dockers promote patient Webster

By Craig O'Donoghue

FREMANTLE rookie Luke Webster will make his AFL debut against Brisbane at Subiaco Oval on Saturday after being promoted to the senior list yesterday.

Webster, 21, got his chance after first-year player Greg Edgcumbe's season was declared over because of knee problems.

Edgcumbe will be admitted to hospital next week to have surgery on both knees, affected by patella tendonitis.

Webster has had two knee reconstructions of his own in the past three years.

But that has not stopped the defender from excelling for WAFL club East Perth this season.

He represented WA against South Australia last month and won the Simpson Medal as his team's best player.

Webster said he thought he would never play AFL football after injuring his knee last year.

Advice from other knee victims Clive Waterhouse and Lee Walker helped him on the road to recovery.

"I'm pretty pumped. It's a big thrill and a great opportunity," he said.

"Having the injuries that I did, I didn't really think I'd get here in the end, but I've got here now. It'll be a great experience.

"The State game gave me a lot of confidence. I was playing at a higher standard than the WAFL because it was pretty full on between the States."

Coach Chris Connolly said Webster would play in either the midfield or back line, where the club has lost players in recent weeks.

Defender Dion Woods will miss another game.

His father's funeral will be held tomorrow.

Midfielder Matthew Carr and ruckman Troy Simmonds will also be unavailable because of suspension.

Fremantle has decided not to appeal Simmonds' one-week ban.

Congratulations to Luke Webster on being promoted to the senior list.As I have said in previous posts I thought the only way for him to gain promotion was for one of those on the list to be injured and it turns out that is the way it happened.
Unfortunately young Greg Egcumbe is the one who has made way for Webster. He is having operations on both knees for clean up and will miss the remainder of the season.
Webster injured himself in the pre season game last year against Collingwood at Fremantle oval, same day as Clive injured himself.

Ripper46,It is my opinion that the players from the rookie list do come along quicker than others due to the fact that they get to play with the bigger guys at senior level(WAFL).
In the past you had guys playing 50 to 100 games in the ressies before making it into the big time.Look at Michael Tuck he played somewhere in the vicinity of 150 games with the Hawks ressies before he made the big time.
I read an article in the press just recently on the sort of thing still happening at the Hawks.I think it was Schwab talking about the number of players coming of age after playing up to 50 games at ressie level.

I believe the AFL must look at raising the age where kids are taken in the draft.Their bodies are not really ready for the battering they get.Every now and then one slips through and is an instant hit but not many really. They nearly all finish up with injuries that take time to recover from.

Yes I am the one who questioned this and as it turns out I was wrong. :(
