I may have missed something , but can anybody tell me why Lyon isn,t getting a gig? He must be one of the best spinners in the world and can be handy with a bat. He,s better than 12 th man.

I think the selectors may be operating under the belief that any blonde legspinner is by definition Shane Warne. Tough for Lyon to get a gig with that sort of competition.

Lol what?

He's utter rubbish in one dayers as his record attests (ODI average of 44 and list A 37). And "can be handy with the bat" please tell me you are joking.

Has a very solid forward defence.

Time to get a run surely

Only played 25 one dayers. His test average wasn't red hot in the early stages of his career either. Improved over time as he was exposed to the level. Reckon it will be the same with the one day game.

RPO is decent (4.86) and Zampa is getting absolutely pogoed anyway.

time to play him with our spot in the semi's looking a bit more assured.

he doesn't have many variations. and while he's never been a slow offie and tossed it up often as others, he's never been one to push it through either. very much suited to bowling lots of stock balls in tests, by that definition. his stats kind of bear that out, and there's numerous almost-cricketers who have similar odi stats to his.
but i'd like to see him play and see what he can do. he will have been working on his game the whole time.

Oh sorry . Didn,t mean to upset an expert . Just asking.

Thanks mate. You weren,t as nasty as Ishikawa.

I'd rather he wasn't even in the squad. Just save him for tests. Last thing he needs to be doing pre Ashes is bowling darts in the WC, trying to restrict the scoring of some hack swinging across the line. Should be playing 4/5 day county stuff somewhere in preparation for the tests.

Maxwell is as good as any other ODI spinner we've got floating around anyway.

I believe you should try and give every player in the 15 at least one game. Just so if they are needed in a semi-final or final due to injury/illness, they have some familiarity with the conditions.

The fact that everyone has played at least one game, bar Nathan Lyon, seems a bit strange. Personally, I can't see him being any worse that Adam Zampa.

If he,s that hopeless , why take him?

One word. Depth.

If Zampa isn't available you'd want a spin option that isn't one just above a part timer in Maxwell.
