Roof would be good that way can have concerts etc to make the most of it. Devils Den sounds good, or Mars Stadium if Mars are still a current sponsor of Tasmania. I believe they are working on improving public transport. Just needed.
Name already spoken for in Ballarat:

I like Devils Den.

It's gives it a bit of an us against them feel.

It'll have some boring generic name, and then be called whatever the naming rights sponsor decrees.

e.g. Hobart enclosed Stadium, known as The Foxtel Dome.

Remember, AAMI park in Melbourne is officially called "Melbourne rectangular stadium"...a name that gets trotted out occasionally for international soccer and the like where it's free of any sponsorship the user doesn't directly profit from.

There was a really cool designin The Mercury, it is more so on reclaimed land on Regatta Point than on Mac Point.
Reckon that Hobart would be more keen on that. Can't say the AFL would be though.

Not sure if paywalled, apologies.

Majority private funded, so the whole development would only require the amount that the state and federal governments have already committed to. A solid Plan B incase the government’s stadium plans get scuttled by: a failure of the Project of State Significance process, or a blow out of the projected costs once the stadium design is finally completed, or an early election leading to a change of government. The fact that this design is being led by Paul Lennon, will obviously be crucial in getting support from the Labor party as well.

So the stadium passed the first vote in the PoSS with support from Labor. If the design and business case stacks up, it will be hard for Labor to shoot it down now, especially if the AFL don't budge.

Premier Jeremy Rockliff ‘open-minded’ on Stadium 2.0, but more meat needs to be put on bones

The state government is open to considering an alternative plan for an AFL stadium on Hobart’s waterfront but needs to see more detail from the proponents, Premier Jeremy Rockliff says.

An unsolicited “Mac Point 2.0” proposal to construct a roofed stadium on reclaimed land off Regatta Point – with 450 apartments built into its waterfront facade – has been floated by engineer Dean Coleman.
The state government’s current plan is for a $710m stadium to be built at Macquarie Point to fulfil the conditions of an AFL team licence.
Mr Rockliff said he was prepared to give the new plan due consideration but more detail was needed from the proponents.
“There’s a lot of work for the Stadium 2.0 proponents to bring forward in terms of finances and costs,” he said.
“I’m open-minded. We will of course scrutinise the Stadium 2.0 proposal.
“We want to ensure that we protect Tasmania’s interests. But as I say we’re open minded and we look forward to further detail being presented.
“We’ll work through those matters with our Macquarie Point precinct plan when it comes to the Project of State Significance and the environment and the economic and the social aspects of that planning approval.”
Mr Rockliff said the government would continue to advance its own stadium plan.
Labor leader Rebecca White said the government’s willingness to consider an alternative proposal was confusing.
“I find it very hard to understand how the government is appearing to support another proponent’s development for a stadium when they’ve got their own pathway for approving their stadium,” she said.

“I think the requirement now is for the premier to be very clear about what he plans to do because if he does choose to get behind Stadium 2.0, he needs to renegotiate the contract with the AFL, he needs to halt the Projects of State Significance process through the parliament and he needs to be clear about what the planning pathway is for that project.”
Greens MP Vica Bayley said the amount of information and consultation going on around the Stadium 2.0 proposal put the government’s plan in the shade.
“It has costings, it has consulted with stakeholders and indeed is starting a conversation with the community,” he said.
“We’re still deeply concerned about the $700m plus of public money that would need to go into it and indeed the use of public land and water, but clearly it shows that the Mac Point option – the government’s option — is woefully undercooked.”

Definitely worth looking at least but I think it's going to be very hard to get the investors on board. It was interesting talking to someone recently that is against a stadium and believes we will definitely still get a team without a stadium because betting agencies and broadcasters don't want to lose the money so will put pressure on them to make sure it works. I'm sorry but I still believe without a new stadium we will not get a team.

In regards to new stadium proposal, what makes me nervous is Paul Lennon's involvement.
I do not trust that man.

I looked at the proposal 2.0 on the website, it's pretty thorough already.

What's funny is albo gave only 240 million for a stadium in Australia, that creates Australian jobs, gives Tasmania an infrastructure asset and gives them an AFL team, which helps the economy from all the traveling fans there, yet it's still struggling to get over the line due to the cost left on the local 'Australian' state government.

On the other hand, he is giving 600 million to create an nrl team and support it via Australian tax payer dollars for 10 years and it's got zero positives for Australia, our workers and the Australian economy. It's not even in Australia!

It definitely pays for the NRL to have a Sydney centric p.m in charge that funds everything so the NRL don't have to put their hand in their own pocket for expansion. In fact, they'll be making money off it through the tv rights for an extra game per round, with zero financial outlay. To give you an idea, 600 million is more than the annual revenue of their entire competition. An appalling conflict of interest.

Dean Coleman has had a lot to do with stadium developments around the country so probably a bit more trust worthy. I really look forward to seeing how the meetings go with big investors, It's not easy getting money from investors these days and they are going to need over 1.5 billion.

It'll be interesting to see how it plays out.
All said and done with Lennon, I'm sure he has a quite a few big connections at the money end of town.

They have already had a lot of interest from investors in Australia and overseas and Dean Coleman even went has far to say they had several ready to go but I doubt that.

The two issues are completely unrelated.

One is a foreign policy and part of the aid budget. If PNG loved soccer, it would be a soccer team. Or a cricket team. Or Aussie Rules. But they love Rugby League and hence, it is part of that. It is offering something no one else can (China)

The other is a domestic infrastructure project.

What the NRL does has no influence on Aussie Rules in Tasmania.

Of course you'd come in flying the flag as usual. You should jump on forums of your favourite sports instead of hanging around here campaigning. Foreign policy my arse, it's a great excuse for albo to funnel a huge amount (most in Australian sports history from a federal government) to his favourite sport to give it a leg up over its competitors.

I was reading an article only the other day that all the Pacific islands are borrowing from Australia these days anyway.

Why isn't he paying for rugby union in every other country in the Pacific? It's the most popular sport there.

I AM TASMANIAN!!!!!!!!! So, of course, I am on this section of the forum.

Also, they already have.

If you wish to take this up with me(or the NRL) further, then take it to the sports industry section. This is about Tasmania, not the NRL, which doesn't have any interest on this island.

Yeah but isn't there some Tasmanian soccer or rugby league forum you could be on?

Also, they already have.

Wow, so 15 mill compared to 60 mill (600 mill), for women's sport in a competition that can't otherwise afford it.

Also I'd like an explanation as to why albo is also funding the current Pacific islands rugby league tournament, when most of the Pacific doesn't give a shit about the rugby league? Actually nobody really cares here either. He wouldn't be trying to spread the gospel of his favourite sport via Aussie tax payer dollars would he?
