Andrew Capel - http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport...man-david-mackay/story-fni5f4l8-1227007351867

From memory my last search only uncovered one more article that referred to the $400k figure. It's too time consuming on a tablet.
I had a search back and this was the only one I could find too ... the only other stuff was about Melbourne offering $2 million over 4 years and him turning it down.

From the article:

Mackay on Wednesday left Bulldog Shaun Higgins as the only restricted free agent on the market by signing a lucrative four-year deal worth about $1.6 million.

Where would the figure have come from for this article? Who would be the source of the info?

3 games before a possible final with 2 we will gave a chance but probably start as slight underdog. And you think it's weird that we're focussing on getting our best 22 on the deck. I think they carried him for as long as they possibly could.
I'm not questioning why they dropped him now. I'm questioning why they didn't earlier, perhaps he would have reacted positively to being dropped.

Though as I type this, I'm thinking that perhaps they thought there was more to gain from dropping/recalling Van Berlo to recapture his form and that MacKay isn't worth it?

It could just be assumption because his prior deal was widely reported at $400k.

We would not ordinarily offer someone like that 4 years, so it stands to reason he had an offer we needed to match. which we did.

It does not stand to reason that having matched the deal we offered materially inferior terms.

Can we change the tread prefix to 'ROAST' please?

Chin up fellas.

Contracts run out on October 31st each year, right?

Actually wouldn't mind him staying on the wing in the SANFL for a while and remembering what it's like to get 25-30 touches in a game semi regularly. If he has a role at AFL level, that's what it needs to be.

Trying to get stronger, increase his contested ball work and playing him in defence have been misguided options.

Forget any other role and the non-statistical crap. Just try to be that annoying Eagleton type who always seems to have no one on them.

We can't just write him off with three years remaining on his contract.

Build up that confidence. It may take the rest of this season. It may even take longer.

Bad, bad move.

He's not an absolute spud, no. But we need to move beyond just "solid contributors" - we need to take it up a level. I agree we can ill-afford to lose any outside-pace, but MacKay just does not have the natural talent that we need. His disposal into the Forward Line just isn't of the quality we need, nor does he seem to get enough of the Pill, or he just doesn't hurt the opposition enough.

Re-signing MacKay is indicative of where the Crows have been for years - Mid-Ladder.

It was very interesting hearing Roo praise Atkins against Brisbane and bringing up he's playing to a level DMack was supposed to but wasn't.

I reckon after Roo heard about the non-statistical roles of Wright and DMack he put a horses head in the selectors bed.

His form , whilst not good, was better than vbs

I have no issue with him getting an extension.

He wont be in the side when (if) all of Seed, Smithers, Milera and Laird are in the team.

I feel the same about Cheney.

Depth is important in the main area of the ground we get most of our attacking drive from
