I actually think its turned out to be an interesting thread. Certainly the insights of many posters has been pretty good, particularly on the fact that he may be starting to fatigue a bit.

he's definately not playing as well now as he was earlier in the season, but he is still performing pretty strongly IMO. He's not the first, and he certainly won't be the lost young player to lose form as the season goes on and the lighter frames find the step up to the week-in week-out rigours of AFL football tough going.

I've no doubt in my mind Macca will eventually move to fullback when Glass finishes and be one of the better fullbacks in the league.

Just watching the game now on FoxSports and I haven't seen much that he's done wrong (except for the deliberate out of bounds, even then, that was a pretty harsh call).

Sure his disposal hasn't been too flash hot, but it is not that bad. Most of his disposal has hit its target. His defensive work has been first rate.

Glass was very similar during the early years

Glass was worse. Far, far worse. His disposal was shocking and his defensive work was average.

Mackenzie has reasonable disposal and good defensive work. In particular, excellent defensive positioning, something Glass took a while to develop.

I don't think he's going too badly. His defensive work is good, handballing and kicking on his preferred side are no issue. I think he has a solid kicking technique in terms of accuracy but they seem slow through the air, almost Hansen-esque, which allows his target's opponent a fraction more time to make a contest of it. Definitely seems a bit gun-shy after the Sydney debacle, though I think he cops more criticism for that than he should.

As a side note, I wonder if any of those who bang on about him supposedly losing us the game against Sydney are the same ones who advocate tanking for the rest of the season?

wasnt drunk, but like you said it was just a rant. Wanted to get something off my chest and vent in some way cos the game was so frustrating, and just i clicked new thread, Mackenzie got done for deliberate out of bounds

He has been our best young defender coming through, although i would like to see more of Schofield.

Now you are starting to talk sense. I really rate Schofield. Reports about his form this year have been mixed, but I see him as a very important part of our future. Personally, I see him playing down back.
