Gaming Madden 13

If real time physics is legit, and with Connected Careers, 'madden' is finally sounding like a worthy 'must-have' purchase for a change, as opposed to a knee-jerk 'gotta have an NFL game despite its flaws' purchase

I like the idea to chop and change roles within the season, wonder if you can do it between teams. I'm guessing the Hall of Fame player feature starts from Season 2012/13 onwards and not the years they played, so Barry Sanders will be in the current day Lions. Not a fan of that.

And why do the pre-release screenshots every year always look better than when you get the game? ;)

I'll probably be waiting until 14 to get it because of the inevitable massive bugs that will present themselves because of the big changes

Yeah, there's all the usual hype. Before blowing in my pants, I'll of course wait for videos and reviews of the finished product before release. And of course, M14 will be made for the new consoles coming in 2013, so that's got the potential to be really great (maybe M15 or M16 when the devs can maximize the new consoles power). But so far so good :thumbsu: and don't think I could do without a football game for 2-3 years :(

super excited for this game, i think the big thing to change for mine is that your not the automatic starter, gives us a chance for a few qb competitions, I'm excited. Qb competitions are one of the most entertaining parts of our game

Nice, nice. That's what I loved about NCAA 12 superstar mode.

But position battles are ****ing hard to win! (well, they were as a Wide Receiver)
Might have to play as Kellen Moore and move up the depth charts and into the Hall of Fame :p

i think kirk cousins is going to make a surprise move to usurp the leadership of RG3 and in a shocking outcome take over the starting job

When choosing to be a coach, you have various initial options to create one from scratch, be an active coach, or a legendary coach. When choosing to create one, you have three options: Teambuilder, Motivator, Strategist. Around 40 seconds into the video they are mentioned.

And when choosing to be a player, you have a ton of options of different types of player to be, like speed wr, possession wr, redzone threat etc.

Seems like a lot of the XP packages for Connected Career (Coach) involve making it easier to re-sign players. Kind of worried that these will be useless considering how easy contract negotiations have been in past Maddens....

While on the topic of the NFL and video games
Former Ohio State All-American defensive tackle Quinn Pitcock was drafted in the third round of the 2007 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts, but depression and video game addiction stunted what could have been a promising career.

Four years later, he's back on the playing field for the Arena Football League's Orlando Predators and eyeing a return to the NFL.

"It's a no-brainer for someone to give the kid another opportunity in the NFL," Predators coach Bret Munsey told the Orlando Sentinel. "I think he could be better than half the guys on the roster."

In his rookie season with the Colts, Pitcock recorded 18 tackles and 1.5 sacks in nine games with one start, but before training camp of his second season he suddenly retired. Pitcock suffered from depression, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and video game addiction.

"I couldn't put it down," Pitcock said of his addiction to the video game series "Call of Duty." "If I visited family or friends, I timed it down to the last second where I could still play another game.

"I'd go to McDonald's for breakfast, order a bunch of food, come home and play for 18 hours into the next day, then crash, sleep for seven hours and do it all over again."

Pitcock has 12 tackles and 3.5 sacks in 11 games for the Predators.

Pitcock was waived by the Colts in 2010 and subsequently failed to get through training camp with the Seattle Seahawks and Detroit Lions.

So, after all the good news about Madden 13, here comes a very bad one...

No roster editing in M13

There are a eight pages of discussion from Operation Sports posters worth reading.

Just quoting one...

Get rid of storylines, get rid of twitter feeds, get rid of legends, add player editing. Thanks
I'm with ya. Why even bother allowing editing if you can only use it in play now? Seriously, what's the damn point. Not to be offensive to Donny " I love rating everyone way too high" Moore, but his rosters kinda suck.

So i rent M13. I load or up and basically just pick my team and start a franchise? Then the season starts, I have to start a NEW CC and begin again if I want more accurate rosters once the season starts?

On what planet in the ENTIRE galaxy does this even make sense?

Offline should allow us to do WHATEVER WE WANT with Our franchise.

So EA pretty much makes us play the game THEIR way.

Whoooo Hoooo. What immersion!

Heres a question. What makes mr moores rosters so magical they we can only use HIS rosters in CC? Seems pretty redundant. If he can make changes to rosters that work in CC... Why can't we?

That's a pretty valid question I must say ....

And a question posed on an OS thread...

Ask and you shall receive...

...but in the end, is it worth it?

The Madden dev team went all out this year and answered us with a new engine, better gameplay, and an overhaul to all the modes. My question to all of you is if it was worth it in your eyes?

Missing editing stats and attributes, no longer have the ability to import draft classes, cannot use a fantasy draft, and few others out there from other threads.

For years I've defended Madden in the boards because I believed that it catered to the casual fan that played it every year. Now they are catering to the gripes from the hardcore players and I don't know if I approve.

For once I'm debating on if I'm buying game day one or not. I probably still will, but I don't know how much replay value I will get without the fantasy draft. I know EA is using 13 as a baseline and building, but I may just keep 12 this year instead of trading it in.

So let me here your thoughts. Is all of this worth it?

He gets a mix of replies from being upset making it a rental first, to others ecstatic. Personal preferences really. I never used player editor for example, but at the same time, D.Moore is an idiot. Some hate the changes, some like it. Etc.

The major missing features I've seen people upset about are
- no roster editing (attributes/equipment/numbers etc)
- no fantasy drafts
- no importable draft classes
- can only play 1 player per console per franchise (i.e. no more controlling all 32 teams).

No roster editing means there is no way of making the rosters more realistic, which in turn decreases its playability if you're like me and prefer to use it as a management sim type game. And no fantasy drafts reduced replayability because there is only so many times you can play with the same players on the same teams.

Its sounding like that this version of Madden will really only have the potential to be good for those that played Online Franchise with a bunch of friends (which is not me)

Yeah, looking deeper into what's missing, it has really disadvantaged one section of gamer, to advantage another section of gamer.
Online is always a lot of fun tho. Franchises are ok if you have a lot of time, but it'll still be fun picking up the controller every couple of days for a few hours and playing random people online in lobbies. It's not as immersive as online/offline franchise, the deeper fun of trades, fantasy drafts, management etc. And offline franchise play just isn't the same, tho playable, but made worse with this news.

I seriously believe what someone told me....that EA on purpose leave stuff out or take stuff out year to year to ensure the product always remains 'unfinished', has a 'ceiling' to reach for, not give it all up, to keep gamers buying the next hyped version.
