The early delisting of Cloke suggests one of two things to me:

1. Cloke wanted to leave and Carlton obliged and delisted him

2. Will use the pick in the ND and delist another player to get Maguire

I wouldn't be surprised if we use all three picks on kids this year, being the last year before the draft concessions.

Guys like Maguire, Kite and whoever else can go on the rookie list, we have to take three picks next year as well so with GC taking all the good picks, if these guys go ok they can be upgraded.

Shouldn't presume acquiring Maguire is a done deal, Carlton have their fitness staff checking him out still, he has to pass some tests and then he has a chance at getting selected, Based on article i posted last page.

There's a new rule that allows a club to downgrade contracted players to the rookie list. There's clearly one or two still on our list saved only by their contracts for 2010. As I've said before, I won't be at all surprised if we exercise that right, freeing up pick 75 and pick 91 for a PSD selection.

While we've lost 4 forwards and gained 1, I still think we have enough weaknesses to go with best available at 12.

After that, yes we need some talls. Picks 43, 59 and 75 may be a gamble in a weak draft, consider they have bucket-loads more potential than Edwards, Hartlett or Fisher going forward.

As for Goose, let's wait and see. If he passes all the conditions by all means get him with our last pick but I wouldn't lose any sleep about another club snatching him - depth player at best.

I'd be taking him before both Maguire and a speculative kid. You know exactly what you're going to get - a mature body capable of playing senior footy straight away (injuries permitting of course). He played 22 games in '09 for Brisbane - a team which made finals. Playing senior footy at least puts him in front of Maguire over the past 3 years, he's a good user of the ball and is still pretty young. If you go with a kid - who knows what you'll get down at 59 - you might get a gem or you might get spud, but we probably won't know for 3-5 years. It's Macdonald for me for sure. Even throw him the mature age rookies spot - forget this Maquire bloke.

yeah if we get a kid that plays in 3 years time... in a strong side like the one we will have then... were looking better than someone who will struggle to make a weaker side next year....

Get the kid......with GC17 and GWS coming into the comp, sides that are trying to steal a cup in the next 2-3 yrs will struggle in the longer term........strengthen our list up for 4-8 years down the track and keep develping the young talent coming through.
