Make McManus Freo's Runner?

I reckon we should make McManus the runner. That way he can still feel a part of things, can help with morale, etc.

In fact, he pretty much plays that role now. All we would have to do is dress him differently and tell him not to tackle anyone. That would cut down on frees-against.

What does everyone think of this as an idea?

Can we afford to have him falling over all the time when we need important messages to get out to our players?

McManus is a contracted player until the end of the season.

We are short midfielders now and even if a Foster or Headland gets himself back on the track there is no guarantee that Carr won't get suspended or Foster re-injured.

If McManus retired tomorrow we could add no new player to our list - we would gain no benefit except lose flexibility.

If McManus is dropped he will go back and push hard at WAFL level and continue to contribute on the training track.

McManus gives us options - something Freo BF fans seem to know little about.

Benefits of dropping McManus off the list are zero.

Good in theory, but he wouldn't be able to play for the Gummies at all during the time he was "LTI"... which I imagine he would want to.

What if he had a role with the club such as an assistant coach? I think his years of experience with the Dockers, his loyalty to the club, and his relationship with the players would be of benefit to the team. I think this could be a win-win situation for all. I think he could be able to give Harvey valuable insight into the psyche of the players and help put an end to the Dockers inability to play a full game of footy without choking.

Personally I would play Schammer over Macca.

I would however not retire McManus to do so nor would I expect Macca to retire early.

I have to agree. FFS what more can be said about him. Moo's point makes a lot of sense.
If nothing else drop him and give him the chance to regain his spot. Thus allowing us a spot to blood a youngster as some of you are screaming for, which in the long is a good idea.
