Malthouse way to soft! New coach PLEASE!

I hate to be a MM basher, but looking from the OUTSIDE, I think he is way to soft & personally not up to the job anymore. He also takes critisim personally & that affects team selection.

Here are my reasons as to why I think this:

Jason Cloke persisted with him in forward line after constan abuse from media & fans. Started fued with David over the treatment of Jason & now he is gone.

Has Kept Lica, Lockyer, Lonie, Davis & Obree far too long at the club. He should of traded at least two of these players just after 2003 & we would of received quality draft picks. Remember Sheedy got rid of blumfield, Heffernan, moorcroft, caracella after 2002. He realised they werent going to be part of the next flag, so off they went!!!

He loves the feeling of giving new kids a chance & hangs on to them far too long. Toovey (Rookie list) & Nicholls (rookie list) wouldnt get on any other AFL list. They are absolutely horrible players & he has put them on our list!

Guy Richards would of been cut off an AFL list after his 3rd year, but after 7 years & nothing to show he still gets a game. He has ha dchances to get ruckman from other clubs, but being very soft he decided to keep the faith in his own.

Tarrant & Johnson didnt get suspended last year & that just weak!

Overall he may be a great father figure to these players, but he is not tough enough to make big decisions & is out of touch will modern football. Playing 3 roookies tonight is an absolute disgrace & it will cost us the game!

Time to move on MM!! Thankyou, but no thanks!

Jason Cloke was definately no superstar, but you have to remember, when he was placed up forward, we were hit with injurys to Rocca, Tarrant and Fraser for large periods of 04-05. We needed to try something out, so that is why MM probably persisted with it for so long.

Sheedy didnt want to get rid off them, they needed too as they we going to be over the salary cap with back-ended contracts. In hindsight we should have traded them, but what would clubs have given us in exchange?

I agree, I dunno but from what i've seen off Toovey he looks like he belongs in the VAFA. He just doesnt look like an AFL player. I hope he proves me wrong though. In regards to Nicholls, that was easily one of the worst debuts I have ever seen. He was horrible... give him another chance and lets see if he can be better.

I agree, They definately should have been suspended... Team Rules must come first!

One thing I have to say is, we are too weak on the trading table. So far Medhurst has been servicable but when I found out Tarrant was traded for Pick 8 and Medhurst I was absolutely filthy. We were dudded!!! We should have told Fremantle that we wanted nothing less than 2 first rounders or Ryan Murphy and David Mundy. Way too weak!!! Players like Chris Tarrant dont grow on trees.

I couldnt agree more! Hawthorn got two first round picks for Thompson & we got pick 8 (very nice) and then a fringe player. We should of asked for one of there young guns & held our ground.

Also Malthouse's game plan of keeping posession is pathetic. It is outdated, predictable & we dont have the skills to pull it off.

When we move the ball fast & straight down the guts we are awesome and hard to beat. When we ***** around with it & use the boundry line, we look slow & very average.

In order for us to progress MM as to move on & we need to replace him with a coach that is ruthless & has flair.

Jason just coz u got delisted doesnt mean u can come on here and bag ur former coach MM. not cool man..haha

seriously this has to be a former collingwood player that was delisted, coz all I have read is negative comments, when the club in a rebuilding stage.

And as far as MM being soft, I honestly think he is the total opposite.

In 02, 03 & 06 Collingwood ended up as the highest placed victorian team. 3 out of 5 yrs is not a bad result. In 02 & 03 we came up against one of the greatest teams ever and if it wasn't for terrible umpiring in 02, we would've had a premiership. There are plenty of other coaches in the system that would have loved that result over the past 5 yrs.

We have had a poor start to the year, but then again, we are missing our captain and reigning Copeland Trophy winner, as well as Brodie Holland who is an ingredient to success some may argue. It is only round 2...lets wait a bit.

As for the getting rid of these players etc. using Essendon as reference...Essendon have gone NO-WHERE since getting rid of them, and for those players they only received Laycock, Cartledge, Cupido and nothing for Moorcroft.

Keep your head in the sand boys & we will never win a flag! Malthouse has been a very good coach for Collingwood but in the last 5 years the game has changed so much & he has not kept up. Proof of that is our game plan that consists of keeping posession but try & move the ball fast too.

Well use your head here, it is very hard to play that style of footy in the modern game. Teams flood & push us out wide & then we just give it up!

I am not a former pie player (but I wish I was!), I think we have a pretty good list & FFS WE ARE NOT REBUILDING!!! I hate that word. We may not win a flag, but we are good enough for top 6!!


I would try and poach Longmire or Harvey. Ok the expereinced coaches I would try and poach Paul Roos. I know it is most likely impossible, but nobody thought MM would leave eagles or pagan the roos. He has already won them a flag & you never know!!!! Gary Pert may soon be president & his best mate is Paul Roos, so a bit a lateral thinking wouldnt go astray!

BUT MM HAS TO GO, if he stays we dont win a flag! We have a very good list, just need a game plan & some ruthless coaching!

The 06 stat was after 22 rounds. In which Collingwood missed the top 4 by %. If you want to continue sacking coaches and ask for blood, then go and barrack for Richmond.
