Jeez, I'm trying to stay positive throughout the year, and not bag Malthouse too much - but gawd, five minutes into the last quarter we're crying out for something different, a bit of an impact in the guts - and Davis and Rocca are still sitting 20m out from goal whilst the same old same old - Lockyer, Swan, Licca, Holland - are out on their feet in the guts.

Rocca fair enough, don't want to risk the achilles I can understand - but Malthouse had to move Davis into the guts at least, maybe even throw a Didak in earlier - something to spark it up.

********poor coaching performance IMO.

I got memories of 2002/3 from tonight and credit to Mick. He was the reason we were successful in those years. Endeavour, discipline and commitment all year. Tonight's game does not write us off or guarantee finals, it's a reasonable game against probably the minor premiers again this year.

Rocca won't play that bad again this season and surely we can hit Tarrant more than 1 in 10 leads.

Sheeees, Mick can't kick it for 'em.

No but he can pick the players who can and drop those that can't.

No amount of positional changes would have won us the game tonight. Too many ******** kicks into the forwards and we got beaten at centre clearances when we had Obes, Lica, Bucks and Dutchy in there, with Frase winning taps. They were too good in the middle (eg Goodwin 20 h/balls, 33 disp).

So bring in Burns, Cara and Morrison and drop the kids? Hmmm, short term vision, maybe right or maybe wrong but choose. Mid to long term it'll pay off, gotta have some pain for some gain. Let's see how it pans out during the year.

I'm sure we're not disappointed in selecting Thomas. Probably at the cost of Cara and/or Burns. You will now say Egan should go, but will he be good in the future? Is he worth a go?

Good guts Mick and selection panel, it's up to Burns Cara and Morro to work their butts off, create pressure on those that have their spots to perform.

PS Rhyce's disposal is equal to the worst in our team, I hope he knows where he has to improve to get back in.

I've posted about 4-5 replies to all the threads about tonight's game and the season coming up, unfortunatley I'm a positive supporter so i get no response.

You guys are weak.

Today's society is made up of negativety and you are all just whingers. It's ok, I bet you all switch on to "tomorrow we have footage of a car salesman exploiting a young chick and/or an american car chase that you won't believe". Enjoy Jeeerrryyy..... but for all of us devote supporters...good signs tonight I reckon.

Are you cut and paste man.

God I will be happy if Malthouse gets the arse at the end of the year.

Why would you keep playing Rocca 20 meters out from goal when he is CHF and can kick a ball 60 meters. The guy is plain stupid.

Leon Davis in the guts? FFS, I'm going to start getting violent if people continue with this idiotic line of reasoning.

The bloke's a half forward/forward pocket. Arguably slighlty above VFL level, but it's line ball.

What makes anyone think that Leon could have stood the heat in that kitchen is bveyond me. It must be drugs, because you can't tell me sober that he'd have one a single ball.

Coupled with the fact that he wouldn't have won any ball, he'd have only ********ed it up if he did anyway. See handball over Lica in the first after a loose ball get, costing us a goal directly.

Leon can do the odd flashy thing. That involves an unpressured loose ball get, one handed for added effect and than a fairly decent shot at goal. He does not, and can not, do anything else.

End of discussion.

Oh bugger, I was hoping we could continue for a while

Passed it as a coach because when you start moaning on about trivial rubbish which has nothing to do with the teams performance in the press conference you have to start asking questions about the state of mind of the coach and with loss number 9 in a row the pressure must be building.

Leon is better than Blake.

FFS...has Leon ever played well in a big game of any magnitude. His one handed scoops while they look good are no good under pressure. Anyone remember the grandfinals? Caracella has proven himself over the years as a good big game player. He adds must versatility to the team.

Yeh right!

At least Blake knows how to get into a good position inside 50. Sadley lacking last night. Leon only bagged 1 goal.

Its not Malthouse's fault we have five players who can kick more than fifty metres. Would love to know exactly Wayne Carey has told the forwards to do! We got slaughtered when the ball hit the deck in the forward 50. No front and squares whatsover.

Davis's times up, I reckon he has lost all his pace.

The forwards are going to cop it for last night, but in reallity, it's a midfield issue.

If they can't get a consistent movement of the pill, nor get a predictable kick into the rifty, then the forwards are going to look like idiots, as they can't even go close to timing their lead correctly.

Not that I was particularly impressed with our KP's, but you can't pin 100% of the blame on them.

Why isnt it. Hes the ********ing coach. Thats what he gets paid for.

Settle the f*** down.
MM was outcoached, but Adelaide have the cattle and experience to put their gameplans into place.
Our players didn't have to nous to see that Adelaide were stagnating our style of play.
We would of beaten most of the teams on last nights performance.
Let's not forgot for the bulk of the last quarter we had Tarrant, Clement and Egan all injured on the bench, that limits the options to make the "match winning" moves you seem to think coaches can pull out of their ass.

Goalpie, the players get paid to play too.
At this early stage you can't blame the coach.
I for one think our gameplan and style of play was fantastic for periods. We didn't have the fitness or the smarts (I suppose you can blame this on the coach) to battle Adelaide's stagnation of our flow. I think the development of our gameplan has been great but Malthouse lacked a bit on matchday tactics.

Believe me, I think MM is nearly as bad as ours. The coach is supposed to guide the team, if he can't get the best or more from his players then, he is a ********ing waste of time.

Caracella playing in the stupid Williamstown team smacks of MM stupidity. Playing down that level does nothing good for a talented player.

I tend to agree as a rule but let’s be realistic. In the 4th Q we didn’t score. Not even a point. What was tried? SFA. The midfielders were out of gas. How about throwing Leon in the guts. Hell even put Jason Cloke in for the bounces since we got MURDERED out of the middle in the last Q. Try Tarrant who couldn't get a kick on Burton. These things may or may not work but surely the coach could see that what he was (or wasn't) doing was not working. I’m not a wrap for Davis but sure as hell there was absolutely nothing to lose by trying this. Try something FFS Malthouse. Just for once. Honestly another year at around $200k per win and still a contract extension to serve out will be enough for me.

Malthouse selected a poor team for the venue and opponent and then proceeded to use it poorly. He was comprehensively out coached from Thursday’s selection to Monday’s game and it far from the first time. Right now we would be better off with just about any alternative. Malthouse has not got what it takes.

Mark, you may be right, but one loss against last year's minor premiers is hardly worth lynching him at this stage. That's what the Poo-Dumpers do.

Jabso is right; we weren't terribly bad! I felt 2002/2003 intensity, I just missed the synergy in moving the ball relatively cleanly. That will come in the next few weeks.

Frustrating start, but not a car crash (eg. Dogs last year).
