A man has been sentenced to three and a half years' jail, with two years and one month non-parole, for pointing a loaded pistol at a Chinese restaurant chef over the taste of his sweet and sour pork.

David Brian Shinner, 62, admitted to pulling a gun on chef Danny Yam at the former 28 Chinese Take-Away at Branxton, in the NSW Hunter Valley, on October 30, 2022.

Mr Yam and his wife operated the restaurant for 30 years before it closed in August 2023.
