Mata looked good. Some nice crosses (in particular the one where Young should have got to the ball and the one which led to the first goal. He did have an off touch or two more than I thought he might though but I'm sure that you can attribute that to just the initial gelling with the team and nerves and all that. Really got high up the pitch to receive the ball and pass it off early as he wanted to obviously make an impact in his first game. I'd expect him to more be the guy who plays the defence splitting pass as opposed to the pass to the guy who tries to play the defence splitting pass which should happen once we have some semblance of a competent midfield pairing (Jones and Giggs?).

He'll be a gem though and I've already ordered a shirt with his name on the back.

The thing that stood out in the game was how deep Mata had to come to get the ball, with a good cm pair he would be much higher up and able to do more damage in between the lines.

Were still a decent chance for 4th, Liverpool have a tougher draw then us and we still have to play them at OT so could come down to that match.

4th will be hard to get. Liverpool are in fine form and will be hard to beat.

Mata is a great player, but it's our midfield that's the big problem, i just hope we get by with what we have in there and scrap into 4th position, then we can re-load in the summer and hopefully be back near the top.

I think Mata is just the start for things to come, it's been a while since i've felt how i did watching this mornings game, seeing Mata run around in the red, a world class attacking player, we've lacked that sort of player for some time, since Ronaldo left really. Was a great feeling.

Him, Rooney and RVP could form a devastating partnership, let's hope it happens, could be the best combo going around.

1. Is ashley young the most frustrating player ever? Has moments of brilliance and puts in some solid performances, but other weeks is absolute garbage. So much unfilled potential Maybe, just maybe the addition of Mata and a fit RVP and Rooney pairing may start to bring the best out of him more often.

3. Is it just me, or does our defence almost seem to work better without Vidic. Dont get me wrong I love Vidic and have been a long time admirer, but everytime he is paired up with Evans our defence seems all over the place. The combination of Evans + Smalling/Jones have put in some really solid performances and I dont know what it is about it, but we seem much more stable and comfortable at the back. Evans just doesnt seem to work well with Vidic and I cant put my finger on it. Smalling at CB has impressed this season now that hes been consistently able to stay on the park (ignore his performances where hes been forced to play RB). Jones is also a class above as a CB rather than a CDM. The future lies in those 3 and I think its time for Vidic to roll over to a new club with Ferdy at the end of this season.

Time to get rid of the crap. I blame Ferguson too for actually believing that "quality" English footballers like Jones, Smalling and Cleverley are going to be part of the next generation at United.

Its definitely motivation more than talent. He just cant get them up playign regular decent football.
