Here we go with St Killllda,
We're gonna give the boys a hand,
Stand up and sing for St Kilda,
They are the greatest in the land,

na na na

Everyday, we're all gonna say,
We love you Saints! Saints! Saints!
Everywhere, we're gonna be there,
We, love you Saints! Saints! Saints!
Marching On Together!
We're gonna see you win
na na na na na na
We are so proud,
We shout it out loud we love you Saints! SAINTS! Saints!

We've been through it all together,

And we've had our ups and downs (UPS AND DOWNS!)
We're gonna stay with you forever,
at least until the world stops going round

na na na

Everyday, we're all gonna say we love you Saints! Saints! Saints!
Everywhere, we're gonna be there,
We, love you Saints! Saints! Saints!

Marching On Together!
We're gonna see you win

Being a Leeds Utd fan and going to one of there games and hearing this chant live, I couldn't help but think how well it would fit with my saints!

Above is the lyrics of 'Marching on Together' the leeds utd song, iv just change where Leeds is to 'Saints'

I like to imagine the day where saints fans band together in the outer belting out this song for a packed stadium, lifting the boys in the last quarter to a mermorable win.

Its a long song so maybe not all of it would be good to chant but at least the course(bold).
I think it would sound awesome.

I know we have a song and what a bloody song it is!! but its the song we sing after a win not during a game.

Anyway just thought Id share it with you guys anyway

PS: if your interested to hear the tune its sung to just look up 'leeds utd marching on together' on youtube.

Cheers
GO Saints!

Great work.

It may be blasphemous to say this out loud (so block your ears before reading on), but the "Oh when the Saints Go marching in" song in its current form is getting a little stale. It needs revamping or updating or something.

I tinkered with some music software a while back and created a song using the choral version of a classic song (O Fortuna I think it was) and this program ripped the sounds from that song and allowed me to use them in my own music. I adapted it to "Oh when the Saints go marching in" and used this as the chorus. I had to mathmatically calculate each note because I have a tin ear, but I finally got there. I wrote 4 verses and after each I played the chorus. I loved it but others were not as enthusiastic as me about it. Sadly it was lost about two computers ago along with millions of photos and heaps of cool music.

Even back then I felt the Saints song was dated and needed more... something.

Maybe if people are feeling adventurous over the break they can try to create something and share it with us less talented folk

The current song is much better than "Oh we do like to be beside the seaside ".
Just change the words to the U2 song a bit, get rid of all this century old stuff.

U2 song??? You mean the Skids song I am thinking.
"Oh when the saints" has that dixie feel, I dont like it and it isn't rousing any other way.

Doh! I didn't even know it was a cover.

Yeah the buskers with Brass instuments seem to like it.
If the new song hasn't got the right nine notes Bagpipe Girl will be very pissed off.

Not hard guys the song is fine. Problem is with AFL stuff actually happens so you dont have much time to sing it. 1 word chant can work but yea besides the end of the game hard to sing that without constant interuptions of "BALLL!!" etc.
Also St Kilda seems to be made up of mainly families it seems to me. Not quite the same as a pack of drunk male adults.

Dirty Leeds. :)

Mick, as an English football supporter I'm surprised you'd not appreciate how good "When the Saints go Marching in" sounds when sung by thousands of football supporters in unison.

Obviously I'm a little biased because along with supporting St Kilda I'm also a passionate supporter of Southampton who are also the Saints.

However, you only have to watch a premier league game to hear how good the song sounds when the crowd are singing it. The Saints part is altered by whatever clubs supporters are singing it (Spurs/Reds/etc) and it sounds magnificent. If you happen to watch a Tottenham game listen to when it's done slowly. They sing it slowly and eventually build up to normal speed.

Didn't even realise that U2 song was a cover, I like the original version better with that aggressive punk style.

Not sure about using that as the official club victory song but it would be awesome as a promo song.

What was the preamble to when to when the saints go marching in from the 80s.

And we're loyal to our mates, where the saints...

oh when the saints... etc.

That was good.

That gwilt goal put the icing on the cake that night.

Better than saints footy ( no offence but if we play utter crap, that's still saints footy)

Loved it.

Did a search on Saintsational and this was somebody's recollection of the lyrics which sounds about right:

We’re Saints we’re proud and we got a lot of fight,
We’re on the move and you’ll feel our might,
We hit em nice and hard, make em drop their guard,
And we’re loyal to our mates, coz we’re the Saints,

Oh when the Saints etc

We’re Saints we’re mean and we’re all mighty keen,
We’re chasing wins like you’ve never seen,
Let’s get em on the run, we’re not out here for fun,
And we’re loyal to our mates, coz we’re the Saints,

Oh when the Saints etc

Oh no doubt I love "when the saints go marching in" I remembered the leeds chant and thought it fitted nicely with St Kilda so I shared the song.

Southhampton ahhh...not much singing was coming from the south when i was over there. They were in administration and -10 pts at the bottom of Div1. I remember them showing some real fight and threatened to get out of relegation, cant remember if they did or not though, will have to go and check. Proud club though, they'll be back.

Haha Leeds scum, no we dont have the greatest reputation. I may not have made it out of the town I lived alive if i didnt follow leeds though, ended up loving them.

We were relegated from the Championship and last season was our first in League One. Had to start with a 10 point deduction and ended up finishing 7th. Without the penalty we would have been in the playoffs and may have been promoted. This season we're midtable but only a few points out of the playoff positions.

With the money and resources we now have I'd be very disappointed if we don't get promoted to the Championship and having a crack at getting back into the Premier League. Where we belong.

You seem switched on Garibaldi. Now all you others seem to need a musical education. The mid 70's hade quite simply the greatest collection of bands and songs of any generation. They had to overcome all the old fogies , great as some of them were.

Look up, from the era.

The Sex Pistols
Wire
Joy Division
The Fall
The Cure
Magazine
The great grand father of it all, Iggy Pop and the Stooges
Souzie and the Banshees
The Undertones
The Ramones

Ah I am an old man, but the music still rocks. So many great bands.

I tell the kids the story of how The Sex Pistols were banned throughout England, it was the Queens 25th anniversary I think. Malcolm McClaren, their manager, came up with the idea of hiring a barge and gate crashing the celebrations taking place on the Thames.

As the ceremonies are taking place down the river comes the Sex Pistols blasting out. "Anarchy in the UK ", "God Save The Queen"...she ain't no human being, and other subversive classics. Brilliant stuff. Just can't see the youth of today being so audacious.

Time to put my slippers and dressing gown on as I sip a warm cup of Milo.

A very very long article. But it gets it's point accross very well, and it's nice to see something other than drivel from a bulldog.

I'm not arguing against St. Kilda the name, I'm extremely glad we didn't, but as a child of the ninties I probably wouldn't care if we had.

But I've always been a bit disappointed with the lack of imagination, both with the song and the nickname.

Panthers, crusaders, Falcons, Dragons etc. If we do go for an independent VFL team or in a national reserves comp. It would be nice to have a cool nickname.

I've never had a problem with the nickname "Saints" but I agree with you that the song could do with some serious updating...

leeds had 15 point deductions and made playoffs and then lost the final in our first year in league one...

back to the point im a leeds fan and on the richmond forum we are having the same discussion on new chants/song to sing at games... MOT was brought up and i'm not 100% on using it just because to my knowledge its an original song for leeds united.

It doesn't seem to bother the Poms. Derby County fans sing a version of Up There Cazaly.

Things are even rosier now! 2nd on the table, best GD in the League, just had a 6-0 win away and scored a 4th Round FA Cup home tie v Man U (ka-ching!)
