As indicated in the CC thread, I have decided to put my hand up to run #marginmania this year. Have stolen the rules from hufus' post two years ago.


We will be starting with eighteen rounds to go in the season, so we will be starting from round seven which means you have until this Friday night to join. Shortly, I will send reminders to everyone in so far to get their tips in for the following week. I’m hoping to get around fifteen or maybe twenty people involved (the more the merrier) so if you know anyone who’s interested in this, tag them in this thread.


The rules are basically the same as last time; pick a team every week, get their margin for the week subtracted or added from your score, aim for the most points at the end. Can only pick each team once, can't pick against the same opponent two weeks in a row, and one team will be left over. If that team wins the flag, you get the points for their biggest win for the season added on, which could make all the difference at the end.


You get three jokers throughout the year which doubles your score for that particular round – let me know if you are using a joker prior to the round if this is the case.


Try to get your picks in by bouncedown of the first game in each round, this I'll be a little more flexible while we wait for numbers to grow for the contest, cos basically you can't join after the round is done. So as long as your pick is in by the time the relevant match starts, you're good to play for this round.

I'm going to be strategic and get rid of a minnow early this week - picking St Kilda. My thinking being we're due for change in the woeful goalkicking and that might just be the difference between us winning and losing. Even if we do lose, hopefully won't be too much and don't have to risk waiting until later for us.

#MarginMania Round Seven Wrap



Well the first round of MM is done and dusted and as expected there are some big winners and some… well not-so-big winners. It seemed everybody but one managed to pick a winning team this week so congrats to nineteen of the twenty participants for getting off to a positive start. The one who didn’t only finished seven points adrift of zero so RU_ doesn’t really get penalised too heavily.



Pretty hard to go past the six people that selected Adelaide with a joker for pick of the week – however Wooshette and raskolnikov both picked Richmond which was the best pick without a joker, so for this I will give both of them the pick of the week. Honourable mention went to the four people that picked Adelaide without a joker who still start with a healthy 55 and all three jokers still intact. However this means they cannot pick Richmond for their premier this year – given only one team has managed to go back to back since 2004 though, that might not be a bad thing.



Anyway a solid start to the competition with some interesting match ups for next week it will be a tricky one. Look forward to seeing who goes well this week.

Reminder you cannot pick a team that plays against the same opponent next week so anyone who picked Adelaide last week (half the competition) cannot pick Essendon this week (though why would you want to).

Please get tips in no later than Friday 7:50 when the first game starts.
