Maric has been fantastic for us this year, especially considering he's been our sole ruckman for most of the year and has been working himself to exhaustion without exception, and still going hard.

Not as tall as you'd like, probably doesn't jump as high as you'd like, but he has a huge heart and gives his all at every contests, which thankfully compensates for a lack of height.

He was second in the AFL for hit-outs to advantage as of last week (he might still be, I haven't checked), a really impressive stat for him.

Apart from Douglas, I think he's one of the real shining lights this year - he's starting to look like he can become a very good AFL ruckmen, instead of just our best option.

I was actually going to start a thread about Maric regarding how he is actually marking the ball now. Early last year I remembered he couldnt mark a ball in a contest if he was against eddie betts. Well dont Maric:thumbsu::thumbsu:

I know it's a overused term in football, but he's becoming quite the gun, personally.

There was one time when he fumbled after receiving a handpass, but to his credit he didn't really seem to panic and managed to dish it off to Goodwin in yesterday's game.

He's reaching new heights.

Am loving the 2010 version of Maric .....
Angry ..... he's one of the few out there that actually get ANGRY!:thumbsu:

apart from the North Melb game Maric has been fantastic

his strong one grab marking has been a highlight not to mention his passion for the club :thumbsu:

Along with Douglas, he's the only player this year who seems to have taken steps forward (ignoring players in their first couple of seasons, of course). Looks to have steps his ruckwork up, and is getting around the grounds better these days. I've always seen him at his best as a second ruck but he's starting to convince me that he could play as our first ruck with decent backup and be in the better half of rucks in the comp.

agreed, having a good year which will put him in good standing for next year.

Is interesting to see how he goes with Griffin as a back allowing him to wonder around the ground a bit more.

I remember draft day when we drafted him and Messon that expert guy Kevin Sheenan said one or both of them should turn into very good ruckman

He got it half right

He should be in our leadership group in 2011, shows passion and gives everything on the field.

I loved when he took that ball against the saints and shrugged the tackle bumped into gardiner gave the hands to thompson

The guy is all heart and all Crow.
I'd love to see him in a new, smaller leadership group as of next year.

Me too :thumbsu: On the weekend he was giving directions to his team mates from the boundary line and I remember thinking then he would make a good leader.

If I were to describe Ivan in one word, it would be: INTENSE. I love the way he throws his weight around, and you can see the passion this guy has for the team when he kicks a goal. His contested marks in defence this year have been a real highlight for me. In a crap season, Ivan has been a real shining light.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to see many games this year, but I did get to see about half of the game against the Saints last Friday night.

What caught my eye is how much Maric has bulked up this season! :thumbsu:

I remember when he was a skinny bean-pole. :D

Van Berlo gets talked up a lot and is a reasonably good player, but his passion pales in comparison to big Ivan's IMO.

I'd be happy if the club ranked Maric's leadership credentials ahead of VB's.

You've got to love that Croat, bleeds for the club. Would love to see him do a bit more in the middle because he can be crucial in his element there, but you can't deny his ruckwork has been outstanding.
