I've played footy and used to go to school with Ivan and personally I'm pleased that he's been able to take big strides in his footy this yr. I can remember him dominating ruck contests and pushing up forward to take excellent pack marks. I was a bit saddened to hear him drafted to a club other than the Bulldogs as I would definetely prefer Ivan over Will Minson.

Correct me if I'm wrong as I hardly seen any Crows games this year but Ivan doesn't seem to spend much time up forward- mainly due to your current lack of ruck stocks. But I would really like to see him spend some time in the goal square taking contested marks and possibly rotate with Tippett.

He's been great this year mate, ruckwork has really stepped up a notch, and his work around the ground has been great too. With Tippett in the forward line, we don't really need another ruck floating down there, but he has taken a few solid grabs when Tip has rucked, and he's definitely starting to do it in the defensive end as well.

Really hope he continues to improve.

He'll never be a star, but his work rate, leadership and example are fantastic.

Hard not to love Ivan.....and I'm happy that I know for a fact that goats are sacrificed for him.

Aw you never know ...

He can get even better, I'm sure of it.

Big fanof the mad Croatian. In time he will be the 2nd best ruckman in our history behind S Rehn. When you think of it in the past we have lamented our inability to find a quality key forward yet our inability to find a quality ruckman has been just as bad.

this thread needs more Ivan worshiping

wow that's a bit of a ridiculous over-reaction  was merely comparing our love for Ivan to that of some people of Che Guevara and the way it's used in popular culture.

Complete overecation I agree. Che is a symbol of leadrship and non conformity at worst. Most don't have a clue of what his politics were.

thats my point, the modern person thinks he was some freedom fighting hero when he was as bad as any communist dictator.

unfortunately for those that he murdered Che didn't get the same reaction as Hilter,Stalin. pol pot or any other genocidal leader.

Maybe because he didn't commit genocide?

Anyway, I liked your picture Crow Throw. Che's image has become really only a pop symbol of counter culture, and given that Maric is pretty well the only bloke willing to throw his weight around and stick up for his teammates under the current regime (since we gave Huddo the flick), I'd say it's fairly apt (though I do hope he doesn't attempt any revolts - last thing we bloody need this season!)

but don't get me wrong Maric is a gun :thumbsu:
And I wish Rowey would stop calling him the Big Russian on 5AA , even McDernott used to. Russia is up North in Europe and Croatia is down south, neighbouring Italy, Russians are Orthodox and Croatians are Catholics. The countries have no relevance to each other. Dont get this wrong or Ivan might come after you :)

You're right apart from the fact that both are Slavic nations. That's probably the only relevance both countries have with each other.

on last few weeks form gets a $100K pay rise next contract! If he can keep it up that... would... be.

Huge wraps from Craigy as well;

"He is making some real strides," Craig said of Maric.

"He's doing some outstanding work, with a good workrate, he's starting to be more dominant around the field, particularly in defence.

"He will become one of the elite big men in the competition.

"Off the field, he's really developing some leadership and I think that adds to his game - he's come a long way and will continue to do so."

His work against Sandilands was really noticeable on Saturday - beaten in the taps quite decisively as you'd expect but he was finding ways to nullify contests and win some of his own footy. Laid 7 tackles. You're not going to be able to out-tap the big purple ******* so you've got to think outside the box, and that's exactly what he did.

Meanwhile Griffin, shockingly, is not disgracing himself at the moment. Still can't mark a football when contesting against a small child but there is some effort in what he's doing. I'll never understand how certain footballers just can't bring themselves to go bull at a gate at everything if required, but credit to him for doing enough to warrant a spot at present. Will start a thread as promised if he goes on to make it.
