Tonight, a new medal was introduced, the Mark Bickley Medal for the best 1st or 2nd year player, both on field and off field. Chris Knights was the winner.

What do you think the significance of this is? Do you think its to prevent players such as Fergus from going home, and making the younger people feel more a part of the club? Also, when Chris was interviewed, he didn't seem too flash keen about things? Am I just paranoid after Fergus?

You are dead set paranoid.

He was a trifle nervous, so don't confuse that with anything else. Knights is loving his footy here. :)

I'd have thought Huddo would've been a dead cert under that criteria.

There must've been some sort of conditions to the medal meaning you are young. If I remember correctly, they didnt state them on TV.

I think they mean the 18-19 year olds

Odd concept that.

Has it replaced the emerging young talent award or what? I only saw the last 45 minutes of the coverage so I don't know whether this was a new award on top of the old one or a replacement.

You'd be right there DT, but I think that the sugestion that there's a bit of long term strategy in the selection of the winner is not without some merit. :)

Not unlike the year down at Port Adelaide when Scott Hodges was playing U/19's and missed training sessions, and even didn't turn up to the odd game or two for good measure. When discipline was threatened he threatened to walk out on the club.

They rewarded him a couple of weeks later with a trophy as the " Club Footballer of the year" - which covered all grades!!

We all nearly rolled off of our chairs with shock!! :p

Hodges stayed and the rest is history. ;)

VB got the Emerging Talent Award.

They forgot Watt's Exiting Talent Award. ;)

No it hasn't. Van Berlo won the emerging talent award.

Club Champion - Simon Goodwin
Best Team Man - Nathan Bassett
Coaches Award - Robert Shirley
Emerging Young Talent Award - Nathan Van Berlo
Members MVP - Simon Goodwin
Mark Bickley's Award - Chris Knights.

BTW did Watts attend last nights function?

Apparently, but left after Big Bill gave a speech about loyalty and the club will not put up with being pushed around. Fergus shook his head and got up and left. This is the speel put out this morning by Rucci. By the way this was before the telecast starting.

A supporter later rang up and said he saw Ferg there during the presentation.

I didnt see it, so perhaps someone who did can give further update.

Apparently he did. I forgot to look for him in the crowd.

But the Queen of drama queens, Mickey Rucci, was making a big thing about it this morning on 5AA.

According to Mickey, he was there, but left early in the piece due to a public comment by Sanders that Adelaide would have its say where Watts went - something along those lines. Watts was supposed to have shook his head and left soon after.

A caller rang and disputed that saying that Watts was still there with less than a half hour to go because he saw him on the tape. Rooch said you'd better check it again, and the caller said he had only just watched it.

My guess is that Rooch wasn't there at all and was given a bum steer on the matter, but as usual tries to blow things out of proportion with or without facts.

His fellow commntators didn't seem to put a lot of store on what Mickey had to say.

nope he was definetely there, he was in the background of the Scott Thompson interview, where thommo said 'theres a lot of s**t stirrers in this group'. Fergus could be seen having a chuckle.

Rucci is possibly the most ignorant news reporter. If Mark Riccuito went to the toilet, the article in the paper the next day would read 'Ricciuto walks out on Crows seeking to go to Port Adelaide'

WTF is Watts doing there?

I would have thought he'd burnt his bridges with the other players!?

no, i personally believe that this is all blown up and fergus only mentioned that he PREFERRED to be traded to St Kilda, not develired and Ultimatum. Andrew Capel's comment would suggest that.

Andrew Capel (The Advertiser) said:
ST KILDA remains the frontrunner for disgruntled Crow Fergus Watts. Austinn Jones yesterday announced his retirement.

What are our sources that say Fergus Watts delivered such an Ultimatum. Fergus appeared to be loving it last night. Of course he is going to nominate a preferred Afl club when your father works there, why wouldn't you? Kane Johnson preferred to go richmond, although he didnt mind if he went elsewhere.

I doubt Fergus would have delievered such an Ultimatum and then had the balls to show up to the club dinner and be happy.

The AFC will try its hardest to accomodate Fergus to St Kilda, but in the end it might not happen, and I'm sure Fergus would be Ok with going to another Victorian club, if he is so happy going to Carlton in the PSD. Nick Stevens stated that he wanted to go to either Carlton or Collingwood, and when it fell through with Collingwood of course Carlton wouldn't offer anything, they can get him for free in the PSD.

We will be compensated fairly.

Why have Sanders and Trigg made big spiels about not being held to ransom by a kid then? If he only said he preferred St Kilda, why then would they create tension by coming out and making big statements like that?

Methinks you may be incorrect.

besides rucci, does anyone actually have a source, or witnessed it themselves or anything that suggest that these comments were made?

Well yes, his manager has come out and said Fergus either gets traded to St. Kilda or he walks.

Triggy the other day on 5AA said that he is extremely annoyed that Fergus has threated to go into the PSD if he doesn't get traded to St. Kilda.

I would assume the CEO would know every minute detail of whats happening.

hmmm. 3 way deal is our option, involving carlton and brendon goddard i think. how willing are st kilda to give up goddard?

we might get carltons pick 4 or something, if we give carlton our first or second rounder.
