Requesting thread to change; "The Puddings Cosgrove thread."

Like I said in the other thread, unless he's changed since leaving Adelaide (and he might have), he was a massive dickhead - combine that with obesity, and you can see why he's miles back.

That hasn't stopped Warner getting games.

Who cares if he's a massive dickhead or if he's overweight.

The guy can bat.
Most of the current side falls into this catagory. Sickeningly, the overweight part is the ONLY reason he won't get a game. CA have this ridiculous idea that only fit looking young men can play for Australia. You only have to look through the past decade to realise that being overweight has no bearing on cricket performance (Inzamam Ul-Haq FFS!!!)

In my opinion, this guy is the saviour of Australian test cricket. We can stick him at #3 for the next 2 or 3 years while younger batsmen develop. He has the technique to succeed at the test level. He will protect our middle order at #3 far better than Khawaja or Hughes will, which will give Clarke more of a chance to start his innings. He can bowl a few tidy medium pacers which means we get rid of Watson.

Positives from selecting Cosgrove
Our #3 will make runs and protect the middle order
Has the technique to deal with Anderson and Swann
Cosgrove can make 100s
Can bowl medium pace
Decent slipper and better in the field than his physique suggests

Negatives from selecting Cosgrove (and why they don't matter)
His feelings getting hurt from constant KFC sledges from the unwashed (he'd be used to it)
He's apparently a bit of a tool (but Lehmann could manage this)
He's overweight (doesn't stop him batting well)

Are you serious?

CA have told him to get fit and in shape, and he can't be f**ked.....

If you don't have the discipline to lose a few pounds and lay off the pizzas when the carrot of national selection is in front of you, you ain't got what it takes to play at the highest level.

/thread....
Just like when Khawaja was told to improve running between the wickets and single hunting?

CA are happy to change their minds about some things.

Cosgrove is not the savior of Australian cricket. But he deserves a bloody chance to become an Australian batsman. He makes runs. He may not be perfect but is Khawaja? Is Hughes? Is Watson?

In spite of his flaws, he is a much better option than the likes of Khawaja etc. If he is going to work hard to get a shot he'd be better off doing it around the national squad with Lehmann etc than languishing in the Shield. Get him in!

As I said in the other thread, Cosgrove should have been selected back in 2009 when he was averaging 60 in English county cricket. Most of our current batting line up wouldn't know how to make runs over there if their lives depended on it.

Thanks to CA's bullshit policies on fitness and marketability, we have to miss out on proven run scorers like Cosgrove. Under today's standards, champions like David Boon, Darren Lehmann, Mark Taylor and possibly even Shane Warne wouldn't get a game. It's totally ****ed up. People need to realise you don't need to be an elite athlete to play cricket. This isn't football or soccer. When your selecting batsmen, runs and talent should take precedence over everything else.

There's no guarantee Cosgrove would have made it at test level but thanks to Cricket Australia we will never know.

Puddings has had his chance and it was too much effort for him to take it. Simply not in good enough shape to play for Australia again and never will be by his own choice, so doesn't deserve to.

No need to move Khawaja from 3 simply because he hasn't had a big score in the series. Ponting took a couple of goes to fit into that position before he became the best #3 in the country.

So Cosgrove wasted "his chance" by averaging 37 in the three ODIs he has played and therefore doesn't get a shot at test cricket, but Khawaja deserves another chance as he's averaged 25 in nine tests?

Right.

Hughes needs to be at 3, not Khawaja

Yeah chuck him in, talented player.

Either him or Hughes (preferably both) and I'd be happy.

I don't think a player averaging 43 over his first class career (including only 39 last season) is worth completely disregarding all fitness standards required to play professional cricket these days for Australia.

The way people talk about him you'd think he was averaging 60 or something.

I take your word for it, you're better qualified than me to say that.
But the saviour of Australian cricket?!

I'd still back Cossie to average like 40 if you brought him in right now. His talent with the bat is only matched by his appetite.

I remember watching him for the first time in a ING cup game for SA, batting with boof, who was the only other bloke who could really muster up anything of substance that day (that was when Lehmann could still really go) and Cosgrove came out and belted them to absolutely all parts for 130 odd in quick time. Can seriously hit a ball, but has rock solid technique.

Undeniable talent, and it's really not too late to pick him as Rogers has shown, just needs to make piles of runs and maybe drop a few kegs.

It's not as if he's morbidly obese either, bowls at a decent clip, would be an upgrade on Watson in the field and is surprisingly quick on his feet to the spinners.

If Glenn Maxwell can have a baggy green, so should Cossie.

Yeah I was going to say, the bloke isn't terribly obese or anything. He's overweight. Damian Leverock with a ton more talent.

I know there's all this talk of the 'carrot' being dangled in front of him but who knows what that entailed really?

The dude is a massive **** (have trained with him) but the runs are on the board so he should get as much of a look in as any of the other batsmen being mentioned (Burns, Maddinson etc.)
